The CURT Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch, 2-5/16" Ball, 30K (Brackets Required) Gooseneck Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK60607) Drilling is required for installation. Typical installation time is . Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 60607 is a gooseneck hitch designed for truck beds with a rear cross arm sub-kit already installed. It features a turnover ball mechanism with a locking pin handle that allows the ball to be inverted when not in use. The hitch includes safety chain attachments, a compression spring-loaded locking system, and a rubber cover to protect the ball when not towing.
The 60607 is designed for truck beds with a rear cross arm sub-kit already installed. It fits long and short truck beds. However, the manual specifically states: do not install on any Toyota Tundra models, and do not invert the ball on 2-wheel drive trucks as it may hit the differential, brake lines, or sensors. For fitment confirmation on your specific truck, contact Curt Manufacturing or consult a fitment database.
No. The manual explicitly states: "Do not invert ball on any Toyota Tundra Models." This is a critical safety restriction and applies to all Tundra model years covered by this manual.
The cross arm sub-kit is a separate component that must be installed in your truck bed before the 60607 gooseneck hitch can be mounted. The manual's installation section is titled "Installing 60607 Turnover Gooseneck After Cross Arm Sub-kit Installation," indicating the sub-kit is a prerequisite. The 60607 bolts to both the rear and front cross arms. Confirm the sub-kit is installed before proceeding with 60607 installation.
Required tools: ratchet, 8mm and 15/16" sockets, 8mm wrench, drill, 3/16" drill bit, 4" and 5/8" hole saw, #3 Allen wrench, torque wrench, cutting fluid, rust inhibitor, and safety glasses. You will also need a 1/2" drill bit for safety chain attachment holes.
The 60607 kit includes: 2 safety chain loop assemblies, 2 U-bolt springs, 4 flat washers (1/2"), 2 nylock nuts (1/2"-13 UNC Grade 5), 2 3/8" washers, 3 flat head socket cap screws (#10-32 x 3/4"), 1 nylock hex nut (#10-24), 1 hex head flange screw (#10-24 x 1.25), turnover ball complete assembly, cast lock pin, handle rod (.375"), 7.5 lb compression spring, vinyl handle grip, rubber cover, .300" U-shaped edging, and 3.75" diameter chrome ring. The manual does not list carriage bolts or flange nuts for mounting to the cross arms; confirm these are included or obtain separately.
Before installation, carefully examine the location of fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical wires in the truck bed. These may need to be loosened or repositioned to provide clearance for new hardware. The installation may require modification or removal of heat shields. Removal of rear window accessories may also be required. Ensure the cross arm sub-kit is already installed. After installation, re-attach brake, fuel, and electrical lines so they do not contact any fasteners.
1. Install rubber edging (CM-UE1) on the cut edge for the 60607 cylinder and trim excess. 2. Position the 60607 over the rear axle and up to the rear cross arm with the cylinder facing the correct direction. Install four 1/2" x 1 3/4" carriage bolts into the 60607 first, then through the rear cross arm and secure with 1/2" flange nuts; finger tighten. 3. Move the front cross arm to the 60607 and install the 1/2" x 1 3/4" carriage bolts into the cross arm, then through the 60607, and secure with 1/2" flange nuts. 4. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs.
Yes. You must drill four 1/2" holes in the truck bed for the safety chain attachments. Using the 60607 gooseneck as a template from under the truck, drill the center of each slotted hole in the gooseneck with a 1/2" drill bit. Ensure holes are drilled in the lower rib section of the truck bed, not the high rib section. These holes are permanent modifications to the truck bed.
1. From under the truck, use the 60607 gooseneck as a template to drill four 1/2" holes for safety chain attachments. Drill the center of each slotted hole in the gooseneck with a 1/2" drill bit, ensuring holes are in the lower rib section of the truck bed. 2. From inside the truck box, place the two U-bolts through the predrilled holes. 3. From beneath the truck, place a washer, spring, washer, and nylock nut on each of the four U-bolt legs. Tighten the nylock nuts until flush with the bottom of the U-bolt.
1. Insert the locking pin (part 7) into the ball cylinder with the handle rod hole located on top. 2. Slide the rubber grip (part 10) onto the handle rod. 3. Insert the handle rod from outside the vehicle through the hole in the 60607 endplate and through the rod guide. The handle rod can be installed on the driver side or passenger side depending on preference. 4. Slide the compression spring (part 9) over the handle rod before inserting it into the locking pin. Insert the handle rod into the locking pin and secure with the #10 screw (part 5) and nylock nut (part 4). Use 1–2 additional 3/8" washers as needed to ensure proper pull length of the locking pin.
Torque specifications: 3/8" hardware to 45 ft-lbs; 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs; 9/16" hardware to 150 ft-lbs; 5/8" hardware to 210 ft-lbs; 3/4" hardware to 380 ft-lbs. All 1/2" hardware mounting the 60607 to the cross arms must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. Check that all side plate hardware has been torqued; some hardware listed may not apply to your application.
1. Pull the handle out as far as possible and rotate clockwise until the locking pin is disengaged and locked out. 2. Insert the ball in the tow position into the cylinder by aligning the ball groove with the cylinder pin. If the groove and pin are not aligned, simply rotate the ball until it drops into place. 3. Rotate the handle counter-clockwise until the locking pin snaps back into position. Ensure the locking pin passes completely through the ball and securely into the cylinder.
1. Verify all 1/2" hardware has been torqued to 110 ft-lbs. 2. Verify all side plate hardware has been torqued. 3. Re-attach brake, fuel, and electrical lines so they do not contact any fasteners. 4. Set the ball in towing position and handle in locked position. 5. Connect the trailer to the hitch ball. 6. Check truck box clearance—there should be a minimum clearance of 6" between the bottom of the trailer overhang and the top of the box sides. 7. Verify clearance between the truck and trailer at cab and box corners. Use the clearance calculator on page 4 to confirm the trailer will not interfere with the truck cab.
There must be a minimum clearance of 6" between the bottom of the trailer overhang and the top of the truck box sides. You must also verify clearance between the truck and trailer at the cab and box corners. Use the clearance calculation method provided in the manual to confirm the trailer will not interfere with the truck cab before towing.
Use this formula: (X) - (Y) = (Z), where X is the distance from cab to ball center, Y is half the trailer width, and Z is the minimum clearance. If there is a coupler overhang (W), use: [(X) - (W)] - (Y) = (Z). If Z is positive, the trailer will not interfere with the cab. If Z is negative, the trailer will interfere with the cab and cannot be used. The manual provides example calculations and a diagram on page 4.
No. The manual warns: "Do NOT invert ball when carrying heavy loads on 2 wheel drive trucks. The ball may hit the top of the differential, brake lines, or sensors." Additionally, do not invert the ball on any Toyota Tundra models. Inversion is only safe on compatible 4-wheel drive trucks where clearance has been verified.
The manual states: "DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED TOWING CAPACITY." The 60607 itself does not have a stated capacity limit in this manual. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or Curt Manufacturing for the specific towing capacity of the 60607 on your truck model.
Maintenance is required every 30 days or prior to use: 1. Keep the hitch ball lubricated regularly using silicone spray or equivalent to prevent wear and rust. 2. Keep the hitch assembly free of dirt and other foreign debris. 3. Check for proper torque on all nuts and bolts before each use and check for excessive wear. 4. Check for ball wear before each use. Do not tow a trailer with worn or damaged parts.
When the ball is not in use, insert the supplied rubber cover (part 11) to protect the ball from dirt, debris, and weather. This helps prevent rust and wear on the ball surface.
The 60607 fits truck beds with a rear cross arm sub-kit already installed. It is not compatible with Toyota Tundra models. Do not invert the ball on 2WD trucks. Confirm fitment with Curt Manufacturing or a fitment database.
You need a ratchet, 8mm and 15/16" sockets, 8mm wrench, drill with 3/16", 1/2", 4", and 5/8" bits/saws, #3 Allen wrench, torque wrench, cutting fluid, rust inhibitor, and safety glasses.
Yes. You must drill four 1/2" holes in the truck bed for safety chain attachments using the gooseneck as a template. Holes must be in the lower rib section of the bed. This is a permanent modification.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This applies to the carriage bolts and flange nuts mounting the 60607 to the cross arms.
Do not invert the ball on 2WD trucks or any Toyota Tundra—the ball may hit the differential, brake lines, or sensors. Inversion is only safe on compatible 4WD trucks where clearance has been verified.
Maintenance is required every 30 days or prior to use: lubricate the ball with silicone spray, keep the assembly clean, check torque on all fasteners, and inspect for ball wear. Do not tow with worn or damaged parts.
If the ball groove and cylinder pin are not aligned, simply rotate the ball until it drops into place. The groove must align with the pin for proper seating.
Ensure the locking pin passes completely through the ball and securely into the cylinder. If it does not snap back, the pin may not be fully inserted through the ball. Verify the ball is properly seated in the cylinder with the groove aligned to the pin, then rotate the handle counter-clockwise again. If the problem persists, check that the compression spring is properly installed over the handle rod.
The manual notes that 1–2 additional 3/8" washers may be needed to ensure proper pull length of the locking pin. If the handle does not pull out far enough, add one or more 3/8" washers (part 2) between the handle rod and the #10 screw to increase the pull length. Verify the compression spring is not compressed too tightly and that the handle rod moves freely.
If the clearance calculation shows a negative Z value, the trailer will interfere with the truck cab. This hitch and trailer combination is not safe to use. Do not tow. You may need a different trailer, a shorter coupler overhang, or a different hitch configuration. Consult the clearance calculation method on page 4 and verify your measurements before attempting to tow.
No. The manual requires a minimum clearance of 6" between the bottom of the trailer overhang and the top of the truck box sides. If clearance is less than 6", do not tow. This clearance is necessary to prevent the trailer from striking the truck bed during turns or suspension movement.
No. The manual states: "Do not tow trailer with worn or damaged parts." If the ball is worn or damaged, do not tow. Inspect the ball before each use as part of the required 30-day maintenance. Contact Curt Manufacturing for a replacement ball assembly (part CM-C60-B).
