The CURT 60642 is a gooseneck hitch kit designed for GM HD (General Motors Heavy Duty) trucks. It includes a 2-5/16" OE gooseneck ball, center section weldment, frame attachment plates, safety chain U-bolt assemblies, and all required fasteners. The kit weighs 150 lbs. and is designed to mount to the truck bed and frame.
The kit is designed for GM HD trucks in both short bed and standard bed configurations. The frame attachment plates (parts 60697-PS, 60697-DS, 60686-PS2, and 60686-MS—items A, B, E, and F) are installed from under the truck to the frame as shown in Figures 3 and 4. They are loosely installed first. Then 6 hex bolts with lock washers and flat washers are loosely installed to attach the frame attachment plates to the center attachment plates. All fasteners are tightened in the specified sequence after all plates are positioned.
After drilling 4 holes through the truck bed using an 11/16" drill bit, install the safety chain U-bolt assemblies (parts 60686-UB and CM-C113-UBS) as shown in Figure 5. Ensure they sit flat when in the lower position and slide easily without binding. Enlarge holes as needed for proper operation. Deburr holes and spray exposed metal with rust inhibitor. Tighten the nuts until flush with the bottom of the U-bolt.
Using a 10mm socket, remove the 2 screws that attach the wire harness bracket to the steel cross member before raising the center section into position. This prevents damage to the bracket. Save the screws and reinstall the bracket after installation is complete.
