The kit includes six components: a handle assembly, release spring, underjaw, square washer, tension spring, and 1/2" locknut. These parts are used to repair or assemble a Class 3 coupler designed for 2" trailer balls.
The kit is designed for 2" trailer balls only.
The coupler has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs with a tongue weight rating of 700 lbs. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the coupler's rating.
Follow these steps in order: (1) Insert the handle through the latch hole in the coupler with a trailer ball in place, and place the release spring on the handle underneath the coupler. (2) Attach the underjaw to the handle and release spring, ensuring the notch in the underjaw engages the coupler body cross shaft. (3) Tighten the 1/2" locknut against the square washer and tension spring underneath the underjaw until the coupler is not loose on the ball but the handle can still be released with moderate pressure.
The notch in the underjaw must engage the coupler body cross shaft at all times. This is critical for proper coupler function. Refer to Figures 2 and 3 in the manual to verify correct positioning. Failure to ensure the notch is properly engaged could result in coupler failure.
Tighten the 1/2" locknut against the square washer and tension spring underneath the underjaw until the coupler is snug on the ball and not loose. The correct adjustment allows the handle to be released with moderate pressure applied to the release latch. The coupler should not move on the ball, but should not be over-tightened.
After towing 50 miles, check the tightness of the coupler on the ball. Ensure the latch handle is in the locked position during this check. This initial inspection confirms that all components remain properly secured.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Failure to follow the installation instructions and warnings will result in separation of the tow vehicle and trailer, which can result in death, personal injury, and property damage. Always ensure the underjaw notch engages the coupler body cross shaft, as improper installation could result in coupler failure.
