The CURT TruTrack trailer-mounted weight distribution hitch is a leader in its class and features revolutionary new technolgy. This TruTrack is the first trailer-mounted WD hitch that uses a unique quick-connect coupler that allows you to couple and uncouple your tow vehicle without resetting the spring bars each and every time. Traditional WD hitch systems require the spring bars to be connected each time you tow and disconnected each time you uncouple to park your trailer. The TruTrack removes the hassle of resetting and adjusting the hitch each time you need to hitch your tow vehicle or park your trailer. The CURT 17520 is a weight distribution hitch designed for A-frame trailers. It uses spring bars and snap-up brackets to distribute tongue weight between the tow vehicle's front and rear axles, improving stability and handling. The hitch head mounts to the trailer coupler, while the adjustable shank and horn mount to the tow vehicle's receiver.
The CURT 17520 is designed to work with A-frame trailers. It accommodates both narrow frames (50° and less) and wide frames (over 50°) through adjustable spring bar width settings at 30° or 70° positions. Narrow frames come preset and require no adjustment; wide frames require cam block adjustment.
Without spring bars, the maximum gross trailer weight is 10,000 lbs. with 800 lbs. tongue weight. With spring bars, the maximum gross trailer weight is 8,000–10,000 lbs. with 800–1,000 lbs. tongue weight. When spring bars are not used, the weight rating is dependent on the trailer ball manufacturer's weight ratings. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The spring bars are rated for 800–1,000 lbs. tongue weight when used as a pair. The tongue weight rating represents the capacity of a pair of bars, not an individual bar. Always use a pair of spring bars and ensure they are rated the same.

Yes. For vehicles with air springs, air shocks, or automatic leveling systems, you must deflate them to their minimum recommended pressure before assembling and adjusting the weight distribution hitch. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for specific instructions on these systems.
The spring bars can be repositioned between 30° and 70° positions (±5°) to fit different trailer frame angles. For narrow frames (50° and less), no adjustment is needed as it comes preset. For wider frames (over 50°), you must adjust the cam blocks. Remove the cotter pins, castle nuts, bushing sleeves, and springs. Remove the carriage bolts while holding the socket in place. With the head upside down, carefully remove the socket, then pull out the cam block and rotate it to the next position. Reinstall the socket, spring, bushing sleeve, and castle nuts, then torque the castle nuts to 75 lb-ft. and reinstall the cotter pins.
Install the hitch head into the trailer coupler and latch it. Apply heavy white lithium grease to the end of each spring bar, then insert the pin to secure the spring bar. To release the spring bar later, remove the wire lock lynch pin securing the spring bar to the hitch head and pull the spring bar free.
First, remove the two 3/8"-16 hex bolts to remove the snap-up mechanism, ensuring bushings stay in the proper holes. Adjust the 1/2"-13 carriage bolts to fit the trailer frame, then reinstall the 3/8"-16 hex bolts. Mount the bracket assembly in the loaded position by inserting the carriage bolts through the adjustment plate and hand-tighten the two 1/2"-13 nylock nuts. Slide the spring bars into the snap-up bracket and move the bracket until at least four inches of the spring bars stick out. Set the bracket height so the spring bars are parallel to the trailer frame. Ensure at least one inch of clearance between the bottom of the trailer frame and the top of the spring bars. Torque the 1/2"-13 carriage bolts to 68 ft-lbs. Tighten all 3/8"-16 hardware on the snap-up bracket snug but do not over-tighten, as it may prevent the linkage from operating smoothly.
Align the tow vehicle and trailer on level pavement in a straight position. Use the trailer tongue jack to level the trailer. Measure the distance from pavement to the inside of the hook in the head and record this measurement. Use the trailer jack to raise the head starting at level, up 1/8" per 100 lbs. of tongue weight, up to a maximum of 1,000 lbs. or 1-1/4". Unload the snap-up brackets by pulling the wire lock clevis pin and rotating the snap-up handles down to the unloaded position.
Install the adjustable shank into the vehicle and measure from the pavement to the tip of the horn. Adjust the horn height by removing the 3/4"-10 hex bolts and moving the horn up and down to get as close as possible to the adjusted measurement without exceeding it. Reinstall the 3/4"-10 hex bolts and tighten by hand. Run the set screws inside the horn to make the horn parallel to the shank with no tilt. The horn should be positioned 4–7" from the pavement.
Back the vehicle up and lower the trailer jack onto the horn. Insert the locking pin and clip into the head and horn. Pick reference points on the front and rear bumper of the towing vehicle and measure and record the height to pavement for both. To check if the arms are properly loaded, lift up on the snap-up bracket until resistance is felt; the handle should be approximately at 30°. If you feel resistance before 30°, adjust the horn tilt until you reach the correct angle. Snap up one snap-up bracket at a time, ensuring the clevis pin is installed before releasing pressure on the handle. Measure the front and rear bumper again. The front bumper should measure lower than the previous dimension, and the rear dimension should measure higher. Maximum weight distribution is reached when the locking pin can no longer be inserted freely.
If adjustment is needed, disconnect the head and horn and raise the head off the horn. Incrementally increase the tilt away from the shank using the set screws. Repeat the measurement check from Step 5 as needed. Maximum weight distribution is reached when the locking pin can no longer be inserted into the head and horn freely.
Torque the castle nuts to 75 lb-ft. after reinstalling the spring, bushing sleeve, and carriage bolts during spring bar width adjustment.
Torque the 1/2"-13 carriage bolts to 68 ft-lbs. when mounting the snap-up bracket assembly to the trailer frame.
Once optimal horn position is achieved, torque the 3/4" bolts to 200 ft-lbs. and tighten the set screw to 200 ft-lbs.
Before towing, check all of the following connections: hitch pin and clip (securing shank to receiver), head to shank fasteners, trailer ball nut, coupler latch, spring bar support brackets, safety chains, lights and turn signals, and braking system (including breakaway switch).
The loaded ball height should never be greater than the uncoupled ball height. If it is, front wheel overload and loss of rear wheel traction can result, leading to unstable handling, reduced braking ability, and a tendency to jackknife when turning and braking at the same time. If the loaded trailer ball height is greater than the uncoupled height, reduce take-up on the spring bar, remeasure, and adjust until the proper height is obtained.
Exceeding the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity can result in unsafe towing conditions and vehicle damage. Always verify your vehicle's towing capacity in the owner's manual and ensure the total weight of the loaded trailer does not exceed it.
Keep the socket-mounted ends of the spring bars and the lock pins in the head assembly free from dirt and well lubricated. Excessive wear in this area may indicate overload or inadequate lubrication. Keep the head assembly exterior clean and do not allow dirt or stones to lodge between the spring bars and the head. Keep hitch parts painted to prevent rust and maintain good appearance; do not paint over labels. Keep lift brackets clean and lubricated to ensure ease of operation. Perform periodic inspection to ensure all hardware and components remain secure.
Use white lithium grease on the spring bars, socket-mounted ends, lock pins, snap-up brackets, and lift brackets. Apply grease to areas where there is metal-on-metal contact.
The recommended uncoupling procedure is: (1) Run the jack down to take the load off the spring bars. (2) Unload the snap-up brackets. (3) Raise the jack until the locking pin can be removed. (4) Raise the trailer to take the head off the horn. (5) Lower the snap-up brackets when not in use.
Some states require a clear view of license plates. Remove the trailer ball when not in use if it restricts the view of the license plate.
