The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. The manual does not require bumper removal for the standard installation. However, if your truck has an existing hitch, you must remove the bumper bolts. The existing 14mm bolts at the end of each truck frame rail are removed to allow the hitch to be positioned and to access the weldnuts. These bolts are returned to the vehicle owner and are not reused in the hitch installation.
Raise the hitch into position by locating the slots in the hitch over the existing weldnuts in the truck bumper and at the end of the truck frame rails. The hitch will align with these factory attachment points.
Attach the bolt-on brackets supplied with the hitch to the side brackets as shown in the manual. Insert a 1-1/2" x 2" block between the bottom of the frame and the top of the bolt-on bracket. Drop the bolt down through the frame, block, and bracket. Use conical toothed washers and nuts on the back side. A 9/16" heavy flat washer is supplied and may be used on top of the block between the frame and hitch if needed.
On short-bed trucks, remove the rearmost 8mm bolt holding the plastic heat shield to the bottom of the frame on the passenger side. Sandwich the tab of the plastic heat shield between the hitch and frame underneath on the passenger side. In some cases, you may need to trim the plastic gusset on the heat shield to allow it to stay in place. The shield remains in place between the frame and hitch bracket.

Trimming of the plastic gusset on the heat shield is required only in some cases. The manual states: "In some cases it may be necessary to trim plastic gusset on heat shield to allow shield to stay in place." Trim only if the shield does not remain in place between the frame and hitch bracket after installation.
