You must: (1) temporarily remove 2 nuts on the outside of the driver's side frame rail to access the fuel pump control; (2) permanently remove the heat shield above the exhaust; (3) temporarily lower the vehicle exhaust by removing the front and rear exhaust hangers; (4) remove the plastic clip holding the vehicle wiring harness from the top of the passenger's side frame rail. The exhaust and fuel pump control are re-attached after installation.

Most fasteners are installed loosely during the initial assembly steps. Side bracket fasteners (step 9), cross member fasteners (step 10), and Hide-A-Goose hitch fasteners (step 12) are all loosely installed. All 1/2-13 Gr5 fasteners are fully torqued to 75 ft.-lb (102 N-m) only in step 13, after the hitch ball sleeve is aligned with the drilled opening.
The rear cross member is installed from underneath the vehicle by placing one end above the vehicle frame and maneuvering the notched section of the opposite end above the frame, then temporarily positioning it against the rear hat channel. The forward cross member is installed similarly from underneath, with the passenger's side notched end placed above the frame and the opposite notched end maneuvered into position. Both cross members are positioned with their square holes aligned with the slots in the hitch side brackets.
The hitch side brackets are placed into position from the inside of the vehicle frame with the frame attachment flanges pointing outwards around the frame. The square holes on the vertical legs of the hitch cross members must be positioned to align with the slots in the hitch side brackets before fasteners are installed.
Always ensure the ball is fully locked before towing. Keep the ball and ball sleeve well lubricated. Check the ball, hitch coupler, safety chains and other connections for proper operation every time you tow. Do not exceed the tow vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity under any circumstances. Do not store the hitch ball upside down in the head, as brake lines could be damaged.
