To maximize this corrosion resistance, the running boards and brackets are both shielded in a durable black powder coat finish. The running boards also feature hardened plastic end caps that eliminate sharp corners and add a professional touch. All LUVERNE Grip Step wheel-to-wheel steps are designed for vehicle-specific applications. This ensures a custom fit and the easiest possible installation. The running boards mount with vehicle-specific brackets and use pre-existing mounting points to avoid difficult modifications. Yes. The manual explicitly states: 'READ INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY AND CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL REQUIRED PARTS (LISTED ON THE SERVICE PARTS LIST) ARE ON HAND BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALLATION.' You should also review the separate installation instructions included with your step assembly.
On the short threaded end of the load reaction stud (Item #11), install a black 3/8" serrated flange nut (Item #10) backwards to the bottom of the thread. Then install a black 3/8" flat washer (Item #9) and rubber cushion washer (Item #8) tight against the serrated flange nut. The end of the stud must be recessed in the rubber washer approximately 3/16". On the long threaded end, install a black 3/8" serrated flange nut (Item #10) backwards to near the bottom of the threads.
The rear outboard cab mounting bracket (Items #5 & #6) must be mounted to the back side of the rear inboard cab mounting bracket (Item #7), towards the rear of the vehicle. Use the bottom single hole and top double holes in the rear inboard bracket. Put the bolts through the front side of the bracket so the serrated flange nuts are on the back side to allow clearance for the frame of the truck.
The rear outboard cab mounting bracket (Items #5 & #6) must be mounted to the back side of the rear inboard cab mounting bracket (Item #7), towards the rear of the vehicle. Use the bottom single hole and bottom double holes in the rear inboard bracket. Put the bolts through the front side of the bracket so the serrated flange nuts are on the back side to allow clearance for the frame of the truck.
Leave all fasteners finger tight during the initial installation steps. The front mounting bracket (Items #1 & #2), center mounting bracket (Items #3 & #4), and rear inboard mounting bracket (Item #7) should all be left finger tight. Do not tighten the spring hanger mounting bolts until the bracket is attached to the step assembly. Final tightening occurs after the step assembly is attached.
Loosen the spring hanger bolt just enough so the inboard spring hanger mounting bracket (Item #23) can be slid up behind the flange of the bolt. Position it behind the flange with the channel open to the outboard side. Install the outboard spring hanger mounting bracket (Item #22) so its inboard vertical portion fits inside the channel of the inboard bracket, using a 3/8" zinc plated bolt (Item #20), 3/8" washer (Item #21), 1/2" washer (Item #18), and 3/8" zinc plated nylock nut (Item #19). Do not tighten these bolts until the bracket is attached to the step assembly.
The rear outboard cab mounting bracket bolts (3/8" black zinc plated bolts, Item #12) must be torqued to 19 lb. ft. This applies to both extended cab (section 4.3.1) and crew cab (section 4.3.2) installations.
The manual states that body mount bolts and spring hanger bolts must be tightened per manufacturer specifications, but does not provide specific torque values. Consult your GM vehicle service manual or the manufacturer's specifications for the correct torque values for these fasteners.
Use caution when removing the body mount bolts on 2010+ GM Silverado/Sierra models. These vehicles have excessive thread locker in the body mount bolt area. Removing the bolts carelessly can damage the threaded inserts inside the vehicle. Take your time and apply appropriate force to avoid stripping or damaging the inserts.

Failure to regularly inspect and maintain factory-recommended torque values may result in damage to the vehicle.
