Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

The assembly includes: 1 Pop-In Gooseneck Ball, 2 Safety Chain Lock Assemblies, 1 Gooseneck Cover, and 1 Storage Bag. All components are shown in Figure 1 of the manual.
Cequent Performance Products warrants the hitch for 7 years from date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship under normal use, ordinary wear and tear excepted. The warranty covers free replacement of defective parts only. Labor charges, installation damage, and incidental or consequential damages are excluded. The warranty applies only when a Cequent Performance Products mounting kit is used and is voided by misuse, abuse, neglect, accident, improper installation, or use violating the manual instructions.
The hitch requires a receiver tube in the truck bed and Q-turn pucks mounted below the truck bed. The Pop-In Gooseneck Ball is inserted into the receiver tube with ball bearings oriented side to side of the truck bed.
1. Lift the handle in the center of the ball and rotate 90 degrees. 2. Insert the gooseneck ball assembly into the receiver tube in the truck bed with the ball bearings oriented side to side of the truck bed. 3. Turn the center handle 90 degrees so it drops into the slit at the top of the ball. 4. If the center handle does not retract fully, rotate the ball until the handle seats itself in the slot. The ball is then locked in place.
1. Place the Safety Chain Lock Assembly on top of the Q-turn pucks. 2. Rotate the Safety Chain Lock Assembly 90 degrees until the center lock drops into place. To remove, lift the center lock and rotate the complete assembly 90 degrees.
When not using the Pop-In Gooseneck Ball, place it in the supplied storage bag and put the gooseneck cover in its place on the hitch.
Before towing, you must: 1. Connect safety chains properly every time, attaching them securely through the chain loops so they cannot bounce loose, leaving only enough slack to permit full turning. 2. Make trailer light, turn signal, electric brake, and breakaway switch connections every time you tow, no matter how short the trip. 3. Check operation of all connections, including electric brake manual control, before getting on the road. 4. Check the ball, coupler, chains, and all other connections every time you tow. 5. Verify tire inflation on both tow vehicle and trailer. 6. Ensure the trailer coupler is smooth, clean, and lightly lubricated.
Gross trailer weight (trailer plus cargo) and vertical load (downward force on the ball) are the two most important items to consider. These weights must never exceed the lowest rating of any part of your towing system. Measure gross trailer weight by putting the fully loaded trailer on a vehicle scale. Measure vertical load with the fully loaded trailer on a level surface and the coupler at normal towing height using a vehicle scale.
Place heavy objects on the floor ahead of the axle and balance the load side-to-side. Secure the load to prevent shifting. Never load the trailer rear heavy. Load the trailer heavier in the front, but not greater than the tongue weight rating of the hitch.
The additional weight of a trailer affects acceleration, braking, and handling. Allow extra time for passing, stopping, and changing lanes. A gooseneck trailer requires a large turning radius as the trailer tracks to the inside of turns. Drive slowly on rough roads. Stop and make a thorough inspection if any part of your towing system strikes the road, and correct any problems before resuming travel.
