Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. Yes, the 50140 kit fits 2010–2012 Dodge Ram 2500 with a gas engine. However, the installation procedure differs from diesel models. For gas engines, you must install brackets (2) and (4) in reverse positions (see Figure 2A), placing the rear left bracket on the outside of the right rear frame rail and the rear right bracket on the outside of the left rear frame rail. Bed drilling locations are shown in Figure 3A for gas models.
The 50140 kit is compatible only with Dodge Ram Megacab 1500 from 2006–2008. It does not fit 1500 models from other years or non-Megacab 1500 trucks.

The 1/8 in. pilot holes are drilled first to mark and verify the correct bolt placement. After drilling, you temporarily position the frame brackets to check that the 1/8 in. holes align with the slots of the frame bracket. If they align, you remove the bracket and enlarge the holes to the final size (9/16 in. for 58058, 11/16 in. for 30124). If they do not align, you adjust the 1/8 in. holes so they do align before enlarging them.

For the 30124 kit: the procedure is the same, but the u-bolt wraps around the outside of the frame behind the rear bed support.
Place the front brackets on the outside of the frame (a portion will be under the bed support). Install a u-bolt on each bracket; the u-bolt wraps around the inside of the frame. Loosely install 1/2 in. conical washers and hex nuts onto the ends of the u-bolts. Important: the u-bolt on the driver side must be placed between the brake line and the frame. Improper placement may result in damage to the vehicle's braking system. Move the electric wiring harness out of the way.
For the driver side rear only, feed a 1-3/4 in. carriage bolt and a 1 x 3 in. block into position in the slot on the underside of the frame using a pull wire. There is a round hole in the inside of the frame that can be used to feed the hardware. Loosely fasten the carriage bolt with a 1/2 in. conical washer, lock washer, and hex nut.
Place the unassembled fifth wheel saddles/slider/goose into the already installed rear mounting rail. Position the second (front) mounting rail with the saddles/slider/goose by inserting the tabs into the mounting rail and pushing the mounting rail tight towards the other mounting rail. Ensure that the mounting rail is centered between the weld seams on the length of the truck box floor. This will position the mounting rail in the correct location and ensure that the fifth wheel will have a snug fit to the truck. If more than one hitch product will be used with the rails, both should be used at the same time to align the second rail.
Place the unassembled fifth wheel saddles/slider/goose into the already installed rear mounting rail. Position the second (front) mounting rail with the saddles/slider/goose by inserting the tabs into the mounting rail and pushing the mounting rail tight towards the other mounting rail. Ensure that the mounting rail is centered between the weld seams on the length of the truck box floor. If more than one hitch product will be used with the rails, both should be used at the same time to align the second rail to ensure that one product does not compromise the fit of the other.
