Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

The 6637 lift unit kit can be used on trailers with single-tube or other narrow-member tongues, but you must use a pole tongue adapter (P/N 3280). The adapter allows the lift units to be properly positioned on the A-frame when the tongue is not wide enough for direct mounting.
Before operating the lift unit, raise the coupled trailer with the tongue jack approximately 3 inches. This reduces spring bar tension and makes lift unit operation easier.
Position the lift units on the trailer A-frame. If the trailer tongue is a single tube or narrow member, use a pole tongue adapter (P/N 3280). Rotate the spring bars parallel to the trailer frame, hold the chain vertical, and center the lift units with the chain (see Figure 1).
Turn the ½-13 × 3-½ bolt until it contacts the frame, then tighten ½ to ¾ turn with a wrench. Do not over-tighten. The manual does not provide a torque specification in foot-pounds; follow the ½ to ¾ turn rule precisely.
Optional mounting holes are provided for trailers that do not permit use of the ½-13 bolt. However, you must consult your trailer frame manufacturer for approval prior to drilling any holes. Do not drill without written approval from the manufacturer.
3/8" hardware is recommended for optional mounting holes, whether self-tapping or nut and bolt. The manual does not specify whether this hardware is included in the kit or must be sourced separately.
1. Remove the spring clip from the back of the unit. 2. Slide the handle over the large handle hook on the lift unit. 3. Lower the lift unit with the handle. 4. Select the appropriate chain link and attach the upper end to the lift unit hook, allowing remaining free links to fall down outside the trailer frame. 5. Ensure at least 6 links remain between the lift unit and spring bar. 6. Use the handle to raise the lift unit, using both hands and maintaining control at all times. 7. Insert the spring clip.
At least 6 links between the lift unit and spring bar are necessary for proper operation of the spring bars during turns. If there are fewer than 6 links, the angle of the head assembly must be increased. Failure to maintain at least 6 links can result in damage to the lift unit.
Keep clear of the swing path of all moving parts when operating the lift unit. Use both hands on the handle and maintain control at all times when raising or lowering the unit. Ensure the lift unit is mounted level with the spring bar chains against the trailer frame for safe and proper operation.
