Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The N7000 is an automatic battery switch that manages charging between a primary and secondary battery in a vehicle. It automatically connects the secondary battery to the primary battery for charging when the engine is running, and disconnects it when the engine is off to prevent the secondary battery from draining the primary battery.
The P/N 7000 is a 3-terminal switch with a housing that provides ground return, eliminating the need for a separate ground return wire when mounted on an auto chassis. The P/N 7001 is a 4-terminal switch with an isolated case, used when mounting on non-conductive materials like fiberglass or wood. However, the P/N 7001 must be mounted on a 6" × 6" metal plate to prevent overheating.
The minimum wire sizes are 10 GA for the primary battery connection and secondary battery connection, and 16 GA for the connection to the 12-volt accessory source activated by the ignition switch. The manual states these are minimum requirements; larger wire gauges can be used to improve secondary battery charge rate.
No, the 30A auto-reset circuit breaker is not supplied with the switch. You must purchase and install a 30A auto-reset circuit breaker separately inline when wiring to the positive (+) terminal of the battery. This is required to minimize the possibility of accidental damage due to circuit overload.
Mount the switch in an area that is not subjected to water, rain, or salt spray. The mounting location must allow heat to dissipate, as the switch becomes hot during normal operation. If using the P/N 7001 (4-terminal) model on non-conductive materials, it must be mounted on a 6" × 6" metal plate to prevent overheating.
Mount the switch with the cap end (crimped end) facing up.
No. The 3-terminal switch housing (P/N 7000) provides the ground return, which eliminates the need for a separate ground return wire when mounted on the auto chassis.
Under normal operating conditions, the switch will become hot as it manages current flow between batteries. You must select a mounting location that allows heat to dissipate freely. Do not mount the switch in an enclosed space without ventilation, as this can cause overheating and damage.
A 30A auto-reset circuit breaker must be installed inline on the positive (+) battery connection to minimize the possibility of accidental damage due to circuit overload. This protects the vehicle's electrical system from damage if a short circuit or overload condition occurs.
No. Although the P/N 7001 (4-terminal) switch is designed for use on non-conductive materials like fiberglass or wood, it must be mounted on a 6" × 6" metal plate to prevent the switch from overheating.
The N7000 is a universal automatic battery switch for vehicles with primary and secondary batteries. The manual does not specify vehicle-specific fitment restrictions. Contact Tekonsha at 1-888-785-5832 or www.tekonsha.com for compatibility with your specific vehicle.
You must purchase a 30A auto-reset circuit breaker separately. If installing the P/N 7001 model on non-conductive materials, you also need a 6" × 6" metal mounting plate. Wire gauges of 10 GA and 16 GA are required as minimums.
Mount in a location protected from water, rain, and salt spray, with good heat dissipation. The P/N 7001 requires a 6" × 6" metal mounting plate if installed on non-conductive materials.
Use 10 GA wire minimum for primary and secondary battery connections, and 16 GA wire minimum for the ignition-switched accessory source. Larger gauges improve secondary battery charge rate.
Yes. A 30A auto-reset circuit breaker must be installed inline on the positive (+) battery terminal to protect against circuit overload damage. It is not included and must be purchased separately.
Yes. Under normal operating conditions the switch becomes hot. Select a mounting location with good heat dissipation and ensure the switch is not enclosed or blocked from airflow.
