Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118329 (Part #TK118329) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The unit is rated for 7.5 amps per circuit. This rating applies to each of the two circuits (left/driver side and right/passenger side) that the T-connector handles.
The manual does not specify which vehicle makes, models, or years are compatible with this adapter. It states only that the adapter connects to a vehicle's taillight wiring harness near the rear of the frame, and that the T-connector connectors must match the ends of the harness connectors. Before purchasing, verify that your vehicle's taillight harness connectors match the adapter's connector type.
The taillight wiring harness is located near the rear of the frame. According to the Spanish version, it runs along and within the left frame rail (driver's side). The harness has connection points on both the left (driver) side and right (passenger) side of the frame.
Yes. Before separating and reconnecting the harness connectors, check that the mating surfaces are free of dirt. If necessary, clean them. This ensures a proper electrical connection.
Install the left (driver) side first: separate the harness connectors on the left side, insert the T-connector adapter with the Yellow wire between them, and lock into place. Then repeat the same process for the right (passenger) side using the connector with the Green wire.
Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted and that the locking tabs are in place. The locking tabs secure the connection. Be careful not to break these tabs when separating or reconnecting the harness connectors.
The T-connector adapter for the left (driver) side has a Yellow wire. The T-connector adapter for the right (passenger) side has a Green wire. These colour-coded wires help identify which connector goes on each side of the vehicle.
Route the T-connector harness to the center of the vehicle. Secure the wire to the vehicle crossmember using the tie straps provided with the adapter. This prevents the harness from moving or becoming damaged.
Test the installation using a test light or trailer. This verifies that the electrical connections are working correctly and that the adapter is properly integrated with the vehicle's taillight wiring.
7.5 amps per circuit.
The manual does not specify any tools required. The installation involves separating connectors by hand, inserting the T-connector adapter, and securing the harness with provided tie straps.
Yes, tie straps are provided with the adapter for securing the T-connector harness to the vehicle crossmember.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Consult the vehicle manufacturer's instructions or a professional installer if you are unsure.
Yellow wire for the left (driver) side, Green wire for the right (passenger) side.
