Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118344 (Part #TK118344) fits 1997 Ford Aerostar models. The 2004 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118344 (Part #TK118344) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-connector adapter is designed for Ford Vans, Expedition, Navigator, Escort, Tracer, and F-150 Pickups with Flareside beds only. If your F-150 has a Flareside bed, it is compatible. If you have a different truck bed style or a different vehicle brand, this adapter will not fit. Check your vehicle's model and bed type before purchasing.
No. The installation instructions specify F-150 Pickups with Flareside beds only. The access method for non-Flareside F-150s is different and not covered in this manual. Do not use this adapter on F-150s with other bed styles.
The unit is rated for 7.5 amps per circuit. Do not exceed this rating, as it may damage the adapter or create a fire hazard.
The manual specifies that you will need a test light or trailer to test the installation after completion. No other tools are explicitly listed. Depending on your vehicle, you may need basic hand tools to remove trim panels and tail light assemblies, but the manual does not detail these.
Remove both tail light assemblies and locate the vehicle's wiring harness. There will be connection points on each side of the vehicle matching the ends of the T-connector adapter.
Partially remove the rear interior plastic trim panels on the driver's (left) side and open the vehicle's jack storage compartment to expose the openings to the tail light assemblies. Also remove the threshold cover plate between the rear doors.
Partially remove the trunk lining to expose the grommets accessing the tail lights. Remove and slit the grommet to allow wires to pass into the tail light openings.
From underneath the vehicle, locate the access hole into the tail light openings. There will be an access hole on each side of the vehicle.
The T-connector end containing the green wire is routed from the passenger side. This connector is plugged between the separated halves of the vehicle's center black wiring harness connector at the tail light assembly.
The T-connector end containing the yellow wire is routed across the vehicle under the threshold cover and out through the tail light opening on the driver's side. This connector is plugged between the separated halves of the vehicle's center black wiring harness connector at the tail light assembly.
Route the yellow wire across the vehicle under the threshold cover that was removed in step 2. Then route the T-connector end containing the yellow wire out from inside the vehicle through the tail light opening.
Disconnect the vehicle's center black wiring harness connector from the tail light assembly, being careful not to damage the locking tabs. Plug the T-connector connector between these separated halves. Repeat this process for both the green wire connector (passenger side) and the yellow wire connector (driver's side).
The manual warns to be careful not to damage the locking tabs when disconnecting the vehicle's center black wiring harness connector. If the tabs are damaged, the connector may not hold securely. Do not proceed; contact the manufacturer or a qualified technician for repair or replacement of the connector.
Test the installation with a test light or trailer. The manual does not specify the exact testing procedure, so consult the test light or trailer manufacturer's instructions for proper use.
Tuck the yellow wire under the threshold panel and secure it. Then reinstall the plastic trim panel, jack storage panel grommets, and tail lights.
The T-connector fits Ford Vans, Expedition, Navigator, Escort, Tracer, and F-150 Pickups with Flareside beds only. Check your vehicle model and bed type before purchasing.
The unit is rated for 7.5 amps per circuit. Do not exceed this rating.
You will need a test light or trailer to test the installation after completion.
The T-connector has a green wire (passenger side) and a yellow wire (driver's side). Both connect to the vehicle's tail light wiring harness.
Yes. Remove both tail light assemblies first to access the vehicle's wiring harness and connect the T-connector.
Do not damage the locking tabs on the vehicle's center black wiring harness connector when disconnecting it from the tail light assembly.
