Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The manual does not specify vehicle makes, models, or years. It is designed for vehicles with factory wiring harnesses located under the vehicle behind protective covers next to the rear bumper. Consult the product packaging, fitment database, or manufacturer to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle.
The adapter includes two T-connectors (one with a Yellow wire for the driver's side and one with a Green wire for the passenger's side), a White ground wire with an eyelet and screw, and cable ties for bundling and securing wires to the vehicle's crossmember.
You will need a drill with a 3/32" drill bit. A test light or trailer is also required to test the installation after completion.
The vehicle's wiring harnesses are located underneath the vehicle behind the protective covers next to the rear bumper. There will be connection points on both sides of the vehicle that match the ends of the T-connector.
Begin with the driver's side. Separate the vehicle's wiring harness connectors carefully without breaking the locking tabs, ensure mating surfaces are clean, and insert the T-connector containing the Yellow wire. Repeat the same process for the passenger's side using the T-connector containing the Green wire.
Insert the T-connector fully between the vehicle connectors and ensure the locking tabs are in place. The connectors should be fully inserted with locking tabs engaged to secure the connection.
Clean the mating surfaces before connecting the T-connector. Ensure that the mating surfaces are free of dirt and clean if necessary before inserting the T-connector.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the adapter on the vehicle frame or crossmember. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Drill a 3/32" hole at this location to secure the White ground wire.
Drill a 3/32" hole (2.4 mm) for the ground wire.
Yes. Before drilling, clean dirt and rustproofing from the grounding point area to ensure a good electrical connection.
After drilling the 3/32" hole, secure the White wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the adapter.
Bundle and secure all wires to the vehicle's crossmember using the cable ties provided with the adapter.
Test the installation using either a test light or a trailer. This verifies that the T-connector adapter is functioning correctly before regular use.
Yes. After bundling and securing the wires and completing the test, reinstall the protective covers that were removed at the beginning of the installation.
The Yellow wire is part of the T-connector for the driver's side connection. The Green wire is part of the T-connector for the passenger's side connection. The White wire is the ground wire.
This T-connector adapter fits vehicles with factory wiring harnesses under the rear bumper area. Check your vehicle's service manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm compatibility with your specific make and model.
