Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118525 (Part #TK118525) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the 118525-037 T-Connector is designed for Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra, Frontier, and Equator vehicles. The installation instructions include location diagrams specific to each model. However, your vehicle must have a 12-pin jumper plug in the passenger side cab (behind the kick panel) and a 6-pin trailer harness connector under the vehicle behind the rear bumper on the driver's side for this product to be compatible.
You will need a trim panel puller and a test probe. The trim panel puller is used to remove the passenger side floor sill and kick panel without damaging the panel fasteners. The test probe is used to verify the installation after completion. All other required components—relays, cable ties, and foam tape—are included with the product.
Yes, relays are included with the product. You must use only the relays provided. The manual explicitly states that using relays that differ from those included can result in the unit not functioning or may damage the vehicle and/or trailer.
The 12-pin jumper plug is located in the vehicle cab on the passenger's side, behind the kick panel. To access it, you will need to use a trim panel puller to temporarily remove the passenger side floor sill by pulling upwards first, then out towards the rear of the vehicle, and then remove the passenger side kick panel.
The gray 6-pin trailer harness connector is located under the vehicle, behind the rear bumper on the driver's side, along the frame rail. You will need to remove the protective cap from the connector before connecting the T-Connector.
Use a trim panel puller to temporarily remove the passenger side floor sill. First pull upwards (1), then pull out towards the rear of the vehicle (2), being careful not to damage the panel fasteners. Once the floor sill is removed, you can access and remove the passenger side kick panel behind it.
Insert the jumper harness with relays into the vehicle's 12-pin harness and lock into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Then secure the remainder of the jumper harness with the cable ties and foam tape provided to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Connect the T-Connector end to the vehicle's mating 6-pin connector. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt before connecting.
Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. The manual recommends using a test probe (included in tools needed) to verify proper operation.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or the following limits: maximum 7.5 amps per stop/turn light (1 per side) and maximum 7.5 amps for tail lights. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information about your specific towing capacity.
Wear safety glasses during installation and follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning. Be careful not to damage panel fasteners when removing the kick panel, do not damage the locking tabs on connectors, and avoid cutting or pinching wires when securing the harness with cable ties and foam tape.
After connecting the T-Connector, replace the passenger side kick panel and floor sill into their original positions. Then test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer to confirm all connections are complete and the T-Connector is functioning properly.
Yes, cable ties and foam tape are included with the product. These are used to secure the remainder of the jumper harness to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
