Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118681 (Part #TK118681) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-One® T-Connector is a towing harness adapter that connects a trailer to your vehicle's electrical system. It allows you to control trailer lights (stop, turn, and tail lights) from your vehicle's electrical circuits. The connector includes a 6-Pin tow plug adapter that interfaces with your vehicle's factory tow harness, a white ground wire, cable ties for securing the harness, and a 4-Flat end connector for trailer connection.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector part number 118681-037 is designed for the Range Rover Sport. The installation accesses the grey 6-Pin connector located behind the access cover in the vehicle's rear bumper area.
You will need: Trim Panel Puller, Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, Philips Head Screwdriver, Flat Screwdriver, and Test-probe. The manual also recommends safety glasses and all standard safety precautions during installation.
The T-One® T-Connector includes: a 6-Pin tow plug adapter, a white ground wire with eyelet and screw for grounding, cable ties for securing the harness, and a 4-Flat end connector. The 4-Flat end mounting bracket or electrical box is not included and must be sourced separately.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required before installation. Contact the manufacturer or your installer for guidance on this safety step.
The access cover is located in the vehicle's rear bumper area. You will unfasten two clips holding the cover to the vehicle using a screwdriver to access the grey 6-Pin connector behind it.
First, remove the factory tow harness protective cap and verify the mating surface is clean and free of dirt; clean if necessary. Then insert the 6-Pin tow plug adapter and lock it into place. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire connection. The manual instructs you to locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If no existing ground stud is available, you must drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
Use a 3/32" drill bit. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or any exposed surfaces.
Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided. Route the harness carefully to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. This prevents damage, rattling, and potential electrical hazards.
Mount the 4-Flat end in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box. The bracket or electrical box is not included with the T-One® T-Connector and must be sourced separately.
Yes. After completing all other installation steps, replace the cover that was removed during installation to restore the vehicle's rear bumper area to its original condition.
All connections must be complete before testing. Test and verify installation using either a test light or by connecting an actual trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. This ensures all connections are functioning properly before towing.
Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's rating or: Maximum stop/turn light: 7.5 amps; Maximum tail lights: 7.5 amps. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information about your specific vehicle's electrical capacity.
Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or any exposed surfaces. When securing the harness with cable ties, avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. Ensure all connections are complete and test the installation before towing.
