Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector is an electrical harness that integrates a trailer's lighting system into your vehicle's existing tail light wiring. It connects between your vehicle's factory tail light connectors, allowing you to control trailer stop, turn, and tail lights from your vehicle's lighting circuits.
The manual does not specify which vehicle models, years, bed lengths, or cab styles are compatible with this T-Connector. Contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's year, make, model, and bed length to confirm fitment before purchasing.
The tail light wiring harness is located underneath the truck bed near the driver's side frame rail. It will have a connection point with connectors that match the ends of the T-connector harness.
1. Locate the vehicle's tail light wiring harness under the truck bed near the driver's side frame rail. 2. Separate the vehicle's connectors carefully without breaking the locking tabs, and clean the mating surfaces. 3. Insert the T-connector harness between the vehicle's connectors. 4. Locate a suitable grounding point (vehicle frame or crossmember), clean it, drill a 3/32" hole, and secure the white wire with the eyelet using the provided screw. 5. Route the T-connector harness to the center of the vehicle and secure it with electrical tape or tie straps.
Carefully separate the vehicle's connectors, being careful not to break the locking tabs. Before disconnecting, check that the mating surfaces of the connectors are free of dirt and clean them if necessary.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connectors, such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember (do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed). Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling.
Drill a 3/32" hole for the white ground wire eyelet. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire with an eyelet using the provided screw. The hole should be drilled into a suitable grounding point such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember, not into the vehicle floor or bed.
Route the T-connector harness to the center of the vehicle and secure the wire to the vehicle's crossmember or other mounting point using electrical tape or tie straps. Tie straps are not provided with the product.
The T-Connector includes a screw for securing the white ground wire eyelet. Electrical tape or tie straps for routing the harness are not provided and must be obtained separately.
You will need a drill capable of drilling a 3/32" hole. The manual does not specify other tools required, such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, or a torque wrench. Electrical tape or tie straps (not provided) are needed to secure the harness.
The maximum tail light circuit rating is 5 amps. The maximum stop/turn light rating is 2.1 amps per side (1 light per side maximum). Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating or these limits, as overloading the circuit can cause fires.
The maximum stop/turn light rating is 2.1 amps per side, with a maximum of 1 light per side. Do not exceed this rating or the towing manufacturer's rating, whichever is lower.
Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" hole for the ground wire, as you must avoid drilling into the vehicle floor or bed.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation using a test light or by connecting an actual trailer once installed. This ensures all lighting circuits are working correctly before towing.
Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Do not exceed the maximum amperage ratings: 2.1 amps per side for stop/turn lights (1 light per side maximum) and 5 amps for tail lights. Also do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating or these limits.
The manual does not specify compatible vehicle models or years. Contact the manufacturer or retailer with your vehicle's year, make, model, and bed length to confirm fitment.
