Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector is a taillight wiring integration harness that allows a trailer to connect to a vehicle's existing taillight system. It intercepts the vehicle's taillight wiring on both driver and passenger sides, allowing the trailer's brake, turn and tail lights to operate from the vehicle's electrical system.
The manual does not specify vehicle make, model, year or body style compatibility. Contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's details to confirm fitment before purchase.
You will need: a trim panel remover, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a drill with a 3/32" drill bit. The 3/32" bit is used only if you choose Option 1 for grounding (drilling a new hole); if your vehicle has an existing ground stud (Option 2), you will not need to drill.
The kit includes: a screw and eyelet for grounding (Option 1), cable ties for securing wires and the converter box, and either a screw or cable tie for mounting the black converter box. The manual does not specify the quantity of cable ties or other hardware details.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or contact the manufacturer before beginning installation.
You must temporarily remove the rear hatch threshold plate, storage covers, and floor covering. You must also partially remove the rear interior trim panels on both the driver and passenger sides. Several trim panel fasteners will need to be removed. Set aside all removed items carefully to avoid damage.
1. Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness on both driver and passenger sides; it will have connection points matching the T-Connector ends. 2. Separate the existing connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs; ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. 3. On the passenger side, insert the T-Connector end with the green wire between the vehicle connectors and lock into place. 4. Route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire to the driver's side behind the panels and along the threshold, then repeat the insertion and locking process. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted.
Mount the black converter box on the passenger side in an out-of-the-way place using the screw or cable tie provided. Secure all loose wires with cable ties, and secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with cable ties to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid areas that could cut or pinch the wire.
The 4-flat connector is the trailer-side connector of the T-Connector harness. Route it through the passenger's side trim panel into the side storage compartment and store it there when not in use.
Drilling is required only if you use Option 1 for grounding. If your vehicle has an existing ground stud on the passenger side (Option 2), no drilling is needed. If you must drill, you will drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire with an eyelet and screw. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury, and do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Option 1: Drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire with an eyelet using the screw provided. Option 2: Locate the existing ground stud on the passenger side, loosen the bolt, place the screw eyelet on the stud, and re-tighten the bolt. Use Option 2 if your vehicle has an existing ground stud; otherwise use Option 1.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating or: maximum 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps per side), and maximum tail lights (5 amps total). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the instruction sheet for additional information.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or by connecting an actual trailer once installation is complete. Ensure all connectors are fully locked in place and all wires are secure.
Before reinstalling the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering and other removed items, ensure that no wires are pinched or cut by the panels or other components. Route all wires carefully to avoid damage.
