Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector is a taillight wiring integration harness that allows a trailer to be connected to a vehicle's existing taillight system. It includes a black box connector, green and yellow wire ends for driver and passenger side taillights, a white grounding wire, a 4-Flat connector for the trailer, cable ties, double-sided tape, and an eyelet with screw for grounding. The 4-Flat connector should be stored in the spare tire compartment when not in use.
The manual does not specify vehicle make, model, year, bed length, cab style, or drivetrain compatibility. Contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's details to confirm fitment before purchasing.
You will need: Trim Panel Remover, Philips Head Screwdriver, Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench. The T-Connector kit includes double-sided tape, cable ties, an eyelet, and a screw for grounding.
No, you do not need to remove the rear hatch. You must open it to access the interior. You will need to temporarily remove floor coverings, 10mm storage tray bolts, storage trays, the threshold plate, and partially remove lower interior trim panels on both sides to expose the spare tire compartment and access the taillight wiring.
No, it is not necessary to remove any of the cargo net holders.
Remove the three screws from each taillight (driver and passenger side), then carefully pull the taillight away from the vehicle. Be careful not to damage the alignment pins during removal.
Before separating the taillight wiring connector, ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Separate the connector carefully to avoid breaking the locking tabs.
Starting with the grommet, push the vehicle's taillight wiring harness into the rear cargo compartment behind the partially removed trim panels. Route the T-Connector end with the green wire out of the opening and pull it from outside the vehicle until the grommet reaches the opening, then seat the grommet. Repeat this process for the yellow wire on the driver's side, routing it behind the panels and along the threshold.
Insert the T-Connector end with the green wire into the vehicle's taillight wiring connector on the passenger side and lock into place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process with the yellow wire on the driver's side. Both connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.
Yes, you must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white grounding wire. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and/or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Mount the T-Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, being careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering and other items that were removed during installation. Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires during reinstallation.
The maximum stop/turn light is 1 per side (2.1 amps). The maximum tail lights is 5 amps. Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or these limits, as overloading the circuit can cause fires.
Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.
Store the 4-Flat connector in the spare tire compartment when not in use.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact the manufacturer or retailer with your vehicle's make, model, and year to confirm fitment.
