Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected Converter TK118437 (Part #TK118437) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The manual states this T-Connector is designed for Honda Civic, but does not specify which model years or generations are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's year and generation to confirm fitment before purchasing.
The T-Connector is a trailer wiring interface that connects to your vehicle's taillight wiring harness. It allows you to connect a trailer's electrical connector (4-flat) to your vehicle's lighting system for brake lights, turn signals, and tail lights.
You will need: a trim panel remover, a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. Safety glasses are also required.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. However, it does require that you reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition for the initial test after installation. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or the manufacturer for battery disconnection guidance.
The T-Connector black box is mounted in the driver's side storage area (trunk). Clean a flat area using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water, then secure the black box using the double-sided tape provided.
Locate the taillight wiring harness on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. On the driver's side, attach both ends of the T-Connector containing the yellow, brown, and red wires to the vehicle's connector. Route the T-Connector end with the green wire to the passenger's side behind the panels and along the threshold, then repeat the connection on that side. Ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place and do not damage the locking tabs.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white (ground) wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, then drill and secure the wire. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Route the 4-flat connector from below the threshold plate into the trunk and store it there when not in use.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: maximum 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps), and maximum tail lights (5 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Open the trunk and temporarily remove the rear threshold plate. Partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights to access the taillight wiring harness. After installation, reinstall the felt trunk liner, threshold, and other items removed, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
The T-Connector uses the following wire colors: yellow, brown, and red wires connect on the driver's side; green wire connects on the passenger's side; and white wire is the ground connection. The yellow, brown, and red wires are part of the driver-side connector end, and the green wire is part of the passenger-side connector end.
Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before connecting. For the black box mounting area in the driver's side storage area, clean a flat area using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water.
The T-Connector 118437 is designed for Honda Civic. Verify your specific model year with the manufacturer or retailer before purchasing.
