Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2003-2008 Pontiac Vibe Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118458 (Part #TK118458) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is a trailer wiring interface for Pontiac Vibe vehicles. It connects to the vehicle's taillight wiring harness and provides a 4-flat connector for trailer lighting. The product includes a black box module, wiring harness with colour-coded wires (yellow, brown, red, and green), grounding wire (white), double-sided tape, cable ties, an eyelet, and a screw for grounding.
Yes, the T-Connector 118458-037 is designed for the Pontiac Vibe. The manual provides installation instructions specific to this vehicle model, including access points for the spare tire area and taillight wiring harness connectors.
You need a drill with a 3/32" drill bit and a Phillips head screwdriver. The 3/32" bit is used to drill the grounding hole. All other fasteners and hardware are provided with the T-Connector.
The T-Connector includes: a black box module, colour-coded wiring harness (yellow, brown, red, and green wires), white grounding wire, double-sided tape for mounting the black box, cable ties for securing the harness, an eyelet, and a screw for the grounding connection. A 4-flat connector is referenced for storage but the manual does not specify whether it is included.
You must remove: the rear tailgate, cargo nets, cargo floor hatch, the spare tire cover (by unscrewing the nut holding it), and the access panel doors on both driver and passenger sides. All removed items should be set aside carefully to avoid damage and replaced after installation.
On both driver and passenger sides, locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness. Separate the existing connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. On the driver's side, attach both ends of the T-Connector containing the yellow, brown, and red wires. On the passenger's side, attach the T-Connector end containing the green wire. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate the access hole on the driver's side between the spare tire and the rear threshold. Route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire and the end with brown and red wires up through this hole to the access panel. The green wire end is routed to the passenger's side following the same process.
Locate a suitable grounding point on the vehicle. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or any exposed surfaces. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling. Drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white grounding wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Use a 3/32" drill bit to create the grounding hole. This hole is used to secure the white grounding wire with the provided eyelet and screw.
Mount the black box using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
The T-Connector has the following maximum ratings: stop/turn light maximum 1 per side (2.1 amps), and tail lights maximum (5 amps). Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating or these limits, as overloading the circuit can cause fires.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or by connecting a trailer once installed. This ensures all wiring is correct and the system is functioning safely.
Replace both access panels, spare tire cover, cargo floor hatch, and cargo nets that were removed during installation. Ensure all components are securely reinstalled. When not in use, store the 4-flat connector in the trunk or rear cargo area.
Wear safety glasses during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or exposed surfaces. Be careful not to break the locking tabs on connectors. Avoid pinching, cutting, or melting the wires when securing the harness. Read the vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
Yes. When you separate the vehicle's existing taillight connector, ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before attaching the T-Connector ends. This ensures proper electrical contact.
