Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the 2007-2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118518 (Part #TK118518) is designed to fit the 2007-2013 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The 2007-2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118518 (Part #TK118518) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is a wiring adapter that enables trailer lighting control on a Mitsubishi Outlander. It connects the vehicle's electrical system to a trailer by interfacing with the vehicle's factory harness and battery, allowing the vehicle's lights to control trailer lights. The system includes a black box-module that processes the signals and a 4-flat connector for the trailer.
Yes, the T-Connector is designed for the Mitsubishi Outlander. The manual does not specify model years or trim levels, so contact the manufacturer or check the product listing to confirm your specific year and configuration are supported.
You will need: 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, trim panel remover, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. The manual does not specify whether a power drill or hand drill is acceptable, or whether a lift or additional people are required.
The T-Connector includes: a white 10-pin tow plug adapter, a grey 12-pin connector, a black box-module, a grey 4-pin battery harness connector, a 4-flat connector, cable ties, an eyelet and screw for grounding (Option 1), a fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, and protective caps. The manual does not specify quantities of cable ties or other consumables.
Yes. The manual explicitly requires you to disconnect both the Negative (-) and Positive (+) battery cables using a 10 mm wrench before accessing the battery harness connector. This is stated as a warning in Step 8.
The vehicle harness connector is located inside the jack storage compartment on the passenger's side of the rear tailgate. To access it, open the tailgate, remove the panel and tire jack, then gently push up on the wheel well access tray to remove it. The harness is inside the access panel area.
The battery harness connector is a grey 4-pin connector taped to a harness behind the vehicle's headlamp assembly. To access it, open the hood, locate the battery, temporarily remove the battery hold-down bracket using a 10 mm socket and ratchet, and carefully move the battery to gain access behind the headlamp.
Plug the towing harness into the white 10-pin tow plug adapter. Ensure the mating surfaces of the vehicle harness connectors match the adapter ends. Push the connectors fully in until the locking tabs click into place. The manual emphasizes checking that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs secure.
Locate the grey 12-pin connector on the T-Connector and insert it into the mating connector on the black box-module. Ensure the mating surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Push the connectors fully in until the locking tabs are in place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs during insertion.
Mount the black box-module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location inside the vehicle interior only. The surface must be free of moisture and mounted high enough to prevent direct contact with water or liquid. The module must never be mounted on the exterior or in areas exposed to elements or moisture, as this could cause serious damage to the vehicle and module.
Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided. Route the harness carefully to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. The 4-flat connector should be routed to the jack storage area and stored in the jack storage compartment when not in use.
Drilling may be required for the grounding connection, depending on which option you choose. Option 1 requires drilling a 3/32" hole to secure the white grounding wire using an eyelet and screw. Option 2 uses an existing ground stud and requires no drilling. You must verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or any exposed surfaces.
If using Option 1 for grounding, drill a 3/32" hole. The white grounding wire is then secured using the eyelet and screw provided with the T-Connector.
Option 1: Clean dirt and rustproofing from a suitable area near the connector, drill a 3/32" hole, and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Option 2: Locate an existing ground stud, loosen the bolt, place the screw eyelet on the stud, and re-tighten the bolt. Both options must be located near the connector. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or exposed surfaces.
The T-Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. The fuse holder is attached to the positive (+) terminal of the battery. The fuse is initially removed during installation and installed in Step 11 after all connections are complete.
After disconnecting both battery cables, locate the grey 4-pin battery harness connector behind the headlamp. Remove the vehicle's grey battery harness protective cap and verify the mating surface is clean. Remove the fuse from the T-Connector's fuse holder if not already removed. Plug the battery harness into the mating plug, ensuring connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Route the wire to the positive battery post and secure with cable ties. Attach the fuse holder (with fuse removed) to the positive (+) terminal. Reconnect both battery cables and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The grounding wire is white. It is secured using an eyelet and screw provided with the T-Connector, either by drilling a 3/32" hole (Option 1) or by using an existing ground stud (Option 2).
Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's rating or: Maximum stop/turn lights: 2 per side (4.2 amps total); Maximum tail lights: 7.5 amps. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or exposed surfaces. The black box-module must be mounted only in the vehicle interior, never on the exterior or in moisture-exposed areas. Secure all harnesses with cable ties to prevent damage or rattling, and avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition, then re-insert the key and turn it to the proper position. The manual does not provide specific test procedures beyond this.
Reinstall the jack storage door, access tray, and all other items removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key, then re-insert and turn the key to the proper position.
