Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2011-2015 Lincoln MKX Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118519 (Part #TK118519) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-Connector 118519 is designed for the Lincoln MKX. The manual shows the Lincoln MKX as the application vehicle.
The T-Connector 118519 is a wiring interface that connects to your vehicle's taillight system. It includes a black box-module that must be mounted inside the vehicle, and wiring harnesses with colour-coded connectors (yellow, green, white, and black 12 ga. wires) that integrate with your vehicle's electrical system.
You will need: 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench, a Drill with a 3/32" Drill Bit, and a Test-probe. You will also need safety glasses, which are required personal protective equipment during installation.
Yes. During step 10, you must disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery cable.
You need access to the spare tire area, both taillight housing assemblies, the interior trim panels, the vehicle's frame rail, and the battery. Start by opening the rear tailgate and removing cargo nets and the cargo floor hatch to reach the spare tire area.
Remove the two bolts securing each taillight housing assembly, then carefully pry the housing away from the vehicle. Be careful not to break the alignment tabs during removal.
First, disconnect the wiring harness at the plugs in the taillight pocket. Then plug the T-Connector end with the yellow wire in-between the mating plugs on the driver's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness. Repeat this step on the passenger's side using the T-Connector containing the green wire.
You may need to drill a 3/32" hole for the ground wire if a suitable existing ground stud is not available near the connector. You must also slit the grommet on both driver's and passenger's sides to allow the T-Connector wiring to pass through. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
Route the wire inside the vehicle through each interior trim panel. Route the T-Connector containing the green wire down the threshold plate, up and through the passenger side trim panel, and out through the grommet hole. The black 12 ga. power wire should be routed rearward along the frame rail from the front of the vehicle, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If one is not available, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
Locate the T-Connector's grey 12-pin connector and insert it into the mating connector on the black box-module. Ensure the mating surfaces match, all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt, and the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs.
Mount the black box-module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location inside the vehicle. The surface must be free of moisture and mounted high enough to prevent exposure to direct contact with water or liquid. The black box-module must be mounted ONLY in the INTERIOR of the vehicle. Mounting on the exterior or in moisture-exposed areas could cause serious damage to the vehicle and module.
Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
Locate the red 12 ga. power wire from the T-Connector box. Connect the black 12 ga. wire and the two black wires from the T-Connector's grey 12-pin connector using the supplied yellow butt connector. Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal. Remove the fuse from the supplied fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal, and secure it to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the supplied yellow butt connector.
The T-Connector uses colour-coded wires: yellow wire (driver's side taillight connection), green wire (passenger's side taillight connection), white wire (ground connection), and black 12 ga. wires (power routing and battery connection). The yellow and green wires plug in-between the mating plugs on the taillight sockets and vehicle wiring harness.
Wear safety glasses during the entire installation. Read and follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Route all wiring to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. Mount the black box-module only in the interior of the vehicle in a dry location.
The T-Connector 118519 includes: a black box-module with a grey 12-pin connector, colour-coded wiring harnesses (yellow, green, white, and black 12 ga. wires), a fuse holder with fuse, yellow butt connectors, an eyelet and screw for grounding, and cable ties for securing the harness.
The T-Connector 118519 is designed for the Lincoln MKX.
You need a 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench, a Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, a Test-probe, and safety glasses.
Drilling is required only if a suitable existing ground stud is not available; you may need to drill a 3/32" hole for the ground wire. You must also slit the grommet on both sides. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
Yes, you must disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery cable during step 10.
The black box-module must be mounted ONLY in the INTERIOR of the vehicle on a flat, dry surface high enough to avoid water or liquid contact. Exterior or moisture-exposed mounting could cause serious damage.
The fuse holder protects the power circuit. It connects between the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable and the black 12 ga. power wire. Remove the fuse before installation, cut the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal to the battery cable, and reconnect the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the supplied yellow butt connector.
