Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118552 (Part #TK118552) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-Connector is designed for Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Durango, Jeep Patriot, and Dodge Caliber. Installation involves removing the taillight housings and inserting the T-Connector between the vehicle wiring harness and taillight sockets.
Yes, the T-Connector is compatible with Jeep Patriot. The installation process differs slightly from other vehicles: you remove the taillight assembly by removing two clips rather than Torx screws, then insert the T-Connector between the vehicle wiring harness and taillight sockets.
Yes, the T-Connector is compatible with Dodge Caliber. Like the Jeep Patriot, the Caliber uses clips to hold the taillight assembly rather than Torx screws. Remove the two clips on each side, then insert the T-Connector between the vehicle wiring harness and taillight sockets.
Required tools are: trim panel remover, drill with 3/32" bit, Phillips head screwdriver, test probe, wire crimpers, wire cutters, and Torx-30 screwdriver. The Torx-30 is needed only for Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Durango; Jeep Patriot and Dodge Caliber use clips instead.
The T-Connector includes: yellow fuse holder with 10 amp fuse, yellow butt connectors, white wire with eyelet and screw for grounding, double-sided tape for module mounting, and cable ties for securing the harness. The 4-Flat connector bracket is not included and must be sourced separately.
Yes, you must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before beginning installation. This is done in Step 5 before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery cable. After all connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 10 amp fuse.
Yes, you must remove the taillight housings to access the taillight sockets. For Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Durango, remove the T-30 Torx screws and carefully pry the housings rearward. For Jeep Patriot and Dodge Caliber, remove the two clips holding each taillight assembly and carefully pry the housings away from the vehicle.
Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from both taillight sockets. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the mating plugs on the driver's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt, and that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat for the T-Connector end with the green wire on the passenger side.
On the driver's side, route the green wire T-Connector end and the 4-Flat connector wire down through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body. Route the green wire T-Connector end to the passenger side and route the 4-Flat underneath the bumper. Route the green wire up through the opening on the passenger side. Route the black 12 ga. wire from the front of the vehicle rearward along the frame rail, then to the rear driver's side and up through the hole between the rear bumper and body. Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire.
Yes, you must drill one 3/32" hole for the ground wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector (do not drill into vehicle floor or bed). Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, then drill the hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
The T-Connector uses a 10 amp fuse. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the product. After all connections are complete and the negative battery cable is reconnected, install the 10 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The T-Connector uses four wire colors: yellow (driver's side taillight connection), green (passenger's side taillight connection), white (ground wire), and black (12 ga. power wire from battery). The yellow and green wires insert between the vehicle wiring harness and taillight sockets. The white wire connects to a ground point using an eyelet and screw. The black wire connects from the positive battery terminal (via fuse holder) to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using a yellow butt connector.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder provided. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow butt connector provided. After all other connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 10 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
Mount the T-Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided. The module must be mounted so that the epoxy side points toward the ground to prevent water buildup. A suitable location is typically under the vehicle or in the rear area near the taillight assembly.
Mount the 4-Flat connector in a suitable location under the vehicle. The bracket is not included with the T-Connector and must be sourced separately. Secure the 4-Flat connector harness under the bumper with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
After the T-Connector is fully installed and the black box is mounted, reinstall the taillight housing assemblies. Position the vehicle wiring harness between the housing and the vehicle body. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness under the bumper with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid areas that would cut or pinch the wire. For Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Durango, reinstall the Torx screws. For Jeep Patriot and Dodge Caliber, reinstall the clips.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Use a test probe to verify that power is reaching the appropriate circuits before connecting a trailer.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The manual does not specify the exact amperage rating of the T-Connector itself; refer to the product label and your vehicle's owner's manual for the specific limits.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into vehicle floor, bed, or exposed surfaces. Route wires carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Ensure all connections are complete before testing.
Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the stated product ratings or the towing manufacturer rating (whichever is lower). Always read your vehicle's owner's manual and the T-Connector instruction sheet for additional information on safe operating limits.
The T-Connector (118552-037) fits Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Durango, Jeep Patriot, and Dodge Caliber.
Yes, disconnect the negative battery cable before installation. Reconnect it after all connections are complete and the 10 amp fuse is installed.
The T-Connector uses a 10 amp fuse installed in the yellow fuse holder provided.
Verify that all connections are complete. Check that: (1) the yellow and green T-Connector ends are fully inserted into the taillight sockets with locking tabs in place, (2) the black power wire is connected to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the yellow butt connector, (3) the white ground wire is securely fastened to a clean ground point, (4) the negative battery cable is reconnected, and (5) the 10 amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder. Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
Wires must be routed carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Ensure the green wire is routed through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body, not along sharp edges. The 4-Flat connector should be routed underneath the bumper. Secure all wires under the bumper with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid areas that would cut or pinch the wire. Reroute any wires that are in contact with sharp edges or moving parts.
The T-Connector black box must be mounted so that the epoxy side of the module points toward the ground. This orientation prevents water buildup. If water is already present, remount the module in the correct orientation using the double-sided tape provided.
