Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2011-2014 Dodge Charger Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118560 (Part #TK118560) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector Charger is a taillight wiring adapter that integrates with your vehicle's existing taillight connectors to enable trailer lighting functionality. It includes a black box-module that processes the vehicle's taillight signals and a harness with colour-coded wires (yellow, green, and white) that connect to the vehicle's taillight wiring, battery, and ground points.
The manual does not specify which vehicle makes, models, or years are compatible with part 118560-037. Contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's year, make, model, and cab/bed configuration to confirm fitment before purchase.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10mm socket and ratchet (or 10mm wrench), drill with 3/32" bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. The manual also specifies that cable ties and double-sided tape are provided with the product.
The product includes: a 10-amp fuse and fuse holder, cable ties, double-sided tape, an eyelet and screw for the white ground wire, and a ring terminal with yellow wire for the battery connection. The manual does not specify the total quantity of cable ties or tape provided.
The manual does not explicitly state whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. However, it does require connecting a ring terminal to the positive battery terminal in step 7 and resetting the electrical system by removing the ignition key for the initial test. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified technician regarding battery disconnection safety.
The black box-module must be mounted ONLY in the interior of the vehicle on a flat, dry surface that is free of moisture and high enough to avoid direct contact with water or liquid. The manual specifies mounting near the center of the vehicle below the trunk threshold using the provided double-sided tape. Do not mount on the exterior or in areas exposed to elements or moisture, as this causes serious damage to the vehicle and module.
1. Open the trunk and remove the threshold panel. Partially remove the corner felt trunk liner on both sides to expose the taillight wiring harness. Remove two Torx-20 screws and cargo loops. 2. Behind the driver's side taillight, separate the vehicle's wiring connectors and insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between them, locking into place. 3. Route the T-Connector end with the green wire to the passenger's side and repeat the connection. 4. Ensure all connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Yes. You must drill one 3/32" hole on the driver's side near the taillight connectors to secure the white ground wire with the provided eyelet and screw. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
On the passenger's side, locate the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable on the fuse box. Using a wrench or socket, remove the nut from the battery terminal stud. Place the ring terminal with the yellow wire onto the stud, replace the nut, and tighten. Then install the 10-amp fuse into the provided fuse holder. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the vehicle's battery before proceeding.
The white wire serves as the ground connection. Locate a suitable grounding point on the driver's side near the taillight connectors, drill a 3/32" hole, and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
A 10-amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder that connects to the positive battery terminal. This fuse protects the circuit from overload.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: maximum 2 stop/turn lights per side (4.2 amps total) or maximum tail lights (7.5 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information on your specific towing capacity.
Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces. When routing and securing the harness with cable ties, avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the vehicle's battery. Do not mount the black box-module on the exterior or in moisture-exposed areas.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. Then test and verify the installation using a test light or by connecting an actual trailer. Ensure all connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place and all wiring is secure.
After installation, verify that: (1) all taillight connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place, (2) the black box-module is securely mounted in a dry interior location, (3) the white ground wire is properly secured with the eyelet and screw, (4) the yellow wire ring terminal is tightened on the battery positive terminal, (5) the 10-amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder, (6) all wiring is routed and secured with cable ties to prevent pinching or cutting, (7) trunk panels, carpet, and clips are reinstalled without cutting or pinching wires, and (8) the system functions correctly using a test light or trailer.
Store the 4-Flat connector in the rear cargo area of the vehicle when not in use.
The manual does not specify compatible vehicle makes, models, or years. Contact the manufacturer or retailer with your vehicle's year, make, model, and configuration to confirm fitment before purchase.
A 10-amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder connected to the positive battery terminal.
Do not exceed: 2 stop/turn lights per side (4.2 amps) or 7.5 amps for tail lights. Overloading causes fire risk. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for towing capacity limits.
The manual states that all connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Verify that: (1) all taillight wiring connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place on both driver and passenger sides, (2) the grey 12-pin connector from the T-Connector is fully inserted into the black box-module with locking tabs in place, (3) the yellow wire ring terminal is properly tightened on the battery positive terminal, (4) the 10-amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder, (5) the white ground wire is securely fastened with the eyelet and screw, and (6) all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key, then test again with a test light or trailer.
Ensure that the mating surfaces of the wiring connectors match and that all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Check that you are not damaging the locking tabs during insertion. Insert the connectors fully until the locking tabs are completely in place. If connectors still do not lock, do not force them; verify that you have the correct connector ends for each location (yellow wire on driver's side, green wire on passenger's side).
