Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2013-2018 Acura RDX Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118569 (Part #TK118569) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-Connector is designed for the Acura RDX. Your vehicle must have a grey tow plug located in the rear storage compartment (accessed by opening the access panel inside the storage compartment). If you cannot locate this grey tow plug, the T-Connector will not be compatible with your vehicle.
The T-Connector package includes: the T-Connector harness, a black box module, double-sided tape for mounting, a white wire with an eyelet and screw for grounding, a 20 amp fuse for the vehicle's fuse box, and a 4-Flat connector. The package also includes cable ties for securing the harness (mentioned in the French instructions).
You will need: a 10 mm socket and ratchet (or 10 mm wrench), a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a 1/4" socket, and a test-probe (or test light). Safety glasses are also required during installation.
The grey tow plug is located inside the rear storage compartment. To access it, open the vehicle's rear tailgate and then open the access panel inside the storage compartment.
Insert the T-Connector harness into the vehicle's tow-plug harness and lock it into place. Before connecting, ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs, and verify that the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white grounding wire. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces; locate a suitable interior grounding point first. The white wire is secured using the eyelet and screw provided in the package.
The black box module must be mounted only in the interior of the vehicle using the double-sided tape provided. Do not mount it on the exterior or in areas exposed to the elements or moisture, as this could cause serious damage to the vehicle and module.
Open the vehicle hood and locate the fuse box on the driver side near the front of the vehicle. Unlatch the fuse door to access the fuse area. Locate the position labeled (20A) Trailer and insert the 20 amp fuse included with the T-Connector package into this position. Latch the fuse box closed.
Store the 4-Flat connector in the rear cargo area of the vehicle when it is not in use.
Test and verify the installation with a test light or by connecting an actual trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or these limits: maximum 2 stop/turn lights per side (4.2 amps total per side), and maximum tail lights (7.5 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
Wear safety glasses during installation. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before connecting. Do not damage the locking tabs on connectors. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Do not mount the black box module on the exterior or in moisture-exposed areas. Follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning.
