Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118653 (Part #TK118653) is designed to fit the 2009-2014 Nissan Murano.
The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118653 (Part #TK118653) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is a trailer wiring harness adapter for the Nissan Murano. It intercepts the vehicle's taillight wiring on both driver and passenger sides and provides a connection point for trailer lighting. The system includes a black box control unit, wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a white ground wire, a 1-pin housing connector, and a 15 amp fuse.
Yes, the T-Connector 118653-037 is designed for the Nissan Murano. The manual does not specify which model years or generations are compatible, so contact the manufacturer or your installer to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
You will need: a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a Philips head screwdriver, a test-probe, and a trim panel puller. These tools are required to remove interior trim panels, drill the ground connection hole, and test the installation.
The T-Connector package includes: a black box control unit, a T-Connector harness with yellow and green wire ends, a white ground wire with eyelet and screw, a 1-pin housing connector, a 15 amp fuse, double-sided tape for mounting the black box, and cable ties for securing the harness.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. Contact the manufacturer or a qualified installer for guidance on this safety requirement.
You must temporarily remove the rear hatch threshold plate, storage covers, and floor covering. You must also partially remove the rear interior trim panels on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. Several trim panel fasteners will need to be removed. Set aside all removed items carefully to avoid damage.
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness on both driver and passenger sides. The harness will have connection points matching the T-Connector ends. Separate the existing connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire on the driver's side between the vehicle connectors and lock into place, ensuring the locking tabs are fully engaged. Route the T-Connector end with the green wire to the passenger's side behind the panels and along the threshold, then repeat the connection process.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling.
Drill a 3/32" hole. This hole is used to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the T-Connector package.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector inside the vehicle. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
The T-Connector harness has three wire colours: yellow (driver's side taillight connection), green (passenger's side taillight connection), and white (ground wire). The yellow wire end connects on the driver's side, the green wire end routes to and connects on the passenger's side, and the white wire is secured to a grounding point inside the vehicle using the provided eyelet and screw.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector inside the vehicle. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area. Drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the T-Connector package. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
The 1-pin housing is a connector taped to the taillight harness on the driver's side. The 1-pin housing from the T-Connector harness plugs into this factory housing to complete the electrical connection.
Open the vehicle hood and locate the fuse box on the driver's side near the front of the vehicle. Unlatch the fuse door to access the fuse area. Locate the position labeled '20A Trailer' and insert the 15 amp fuse included with the T-Connector package. If a fuse already exists in the trailer position, skip this step.
Install the 15 amp fuse included with the T-Connector package in the position labeled '20A Trailer' in the vehicle's fuse box. If a fuse already exists in that position, do not install another one.
On the driver's side, mount the T-Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Use the cable ties provided with the T-Connector package to secure the harness. Be careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire. When reinstalling trim panels, threshold, storage covers, and floor covering, be careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering and other items removed during installation. Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires during reinstallation.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and do not drill into any exposed surfaces. When handling connectors, be careful not to break the locking tabs. When reinstalling trim panels, be careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating (as stated in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the T-Connector product. Overloading circuits can cause fires.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
Install the included 15 amp fuse in the position labeled '20A Trailer' in the driver's side fuse box. Skip this step if a fuse already exists in that position.
