Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the 2016-2019 Chevrolet Cruze Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118696 (Part #TK118696) is designed to fit the 2016-2019 Chevrolet Cruze.
The 2016-2019 Chevrolet Cruze Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118696 (Part #TK118696) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-One® T-Connector is a wiring harness that integrates a vehicle's taillight signals with a trailer connector. It allows you to connect a trailer to your Chevrolet Cruze by tapping into the vehicle's existing taillight wiring on both the driver and passenger sides, routing the signals through a black box module, and providing a 4-flat connector for storage in the trunk when not in use.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector (part number 118696-037) is designed for the Chevrolet Cruze. The manual does not specify model year range, so contact the manufacturer or your retailer to confirm compatibility with your specific year.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. Safety glasses are also required.
The kit includes: two T-Connector ends (one with yellow wire for driver's side, one with green wire for passenger's side), a black box module, white wire with eyelet and screw for grounding, yellow butt connectors, a yellow fuse holder with 15 amp fuse, cable ties, and a 4-flat connector for storage.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal. Reconnect the negative cable only after the fuse holder and 15 amp fuse are fully installed.
Open the trunk, temporarily remove the rear threshold plate, and partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights. This provides access to the taillight wiring harness on both the driver and passenger sides.
Locate the taillight wiring harness on both the driver and passenger sides. Separate the existing connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. On the driver's side, insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle connectors and lock into place. Route the green-wire end to the passenger's side behind the panels and along the threshold, then repeat the connection. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs engaged.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white grounding wire. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the grounding area first.
Drill a 3/32" hole for the white grounding wire. Secure the wire using the eyelet and screw provided in the kit.
From inside the vehicle, connect the black 12 ga. wire from the T-Connector black box to the supplied black 12 ga. wire using a yellow butt connector. You have two routing options: (1) route the black wire through a grommet and along the exterior frame, or (2) follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire. If using the exterior route, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and other points that may pinch or break the wire.
Install a 15 amp fuse into the yellow fuse holder provided. This fuse protects the circuit and must be installed after the fuse holder is connected to the vehicle's positive battery terminal.
After disconnecting the negative battery cable, cut the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal to the cut end, and secure it to the vehicle's positive (+) battery terminal. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Do not reconnect the negative battery cable or install the 15 amp fuse until all other connections are complete.
The T-Connector uses yellow wire (driver's side), green wire (passenger's side), white wire (grounding), and black wire (power and ground connections). The yellow butt connectors are used to join black wires.
Mount the black box module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location to prevent damage or rattling. Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
Use the cable ties provided to secure the harness and prevent damage or rattling. Avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. After securing the harness, replace the carpet and any clips or panels that were removed, being careful not to cut or pinch the wires.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: maximum stop/turn light 2 per side (4.2 amps), or maximum tail lights (7.5 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the towing manufacturer's instructions for additional information.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Store the 4-flat connector in the trunk area when not in use.
Yes, disconnect the negative battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the positive terminal. Reconnect only after the 15 amp fuse is installed.
Install a 15 amp fuse in the yellow fuse holder provided.
Verify that all connections are complete. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. Ensure the 15 amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder, the negative battery cable is reconnected, and all T-Connector ends are fully inserted with locking tabs engaged.
