Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the 2016-2019 Acura TLX Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118697 (Part #TK118697) is designed to fit the 2016-2019 Acura TLX.
The 2016-2019 Acura TLX Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118697 (Part #TK118697) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-One® T-Connector is a trailer wiring harness system designed for the Acura TLX. It provides a connection point between the vehicle's taillight wiring and a trailer's electrical system, allowing the trailer lights to operate from the vehicle's electrical system. The system includes a black box module, T-connectors with color-coded wires (yellow, brown, green, white, and black), a fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, cable ties, and hardware for installation.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector (part number 118697-037) is designed specifically for the Acura TLX. The manual provides installation instructions tailored to this vehicle's taillight configuration and electrical system.
You will need: a trim panel remover, a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a Phillips head screwdriver, a test probe, a 10 mm socket or wrench, wire crimpers, and wire cutters. These tools are required to remove trim panels, drill the ground wire hole, disconnect and reconnect connectors, and prepare the wiring harness.
The kit includes: a black box module (T-One® T-Connector), T-connectors with color-coded wires (yellow, brown, and green), a white ground wire with an eyelet and screw, a black 12 gauge wire, a yellow fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, yellow butt connectors, a ring terminal, cable ties, and a 4-flat connector for storage in the trunk when not in use.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal. This is a safety requirement to prevent electrical shock or short circuits during installation. After all connections are complete, you reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
Yes. You must remove the taillights on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle to access the taillight wiring harness. When removing them, carefully pull the taillights away from the vehicle and be careful not to damage the alignment pins. The taillights are reinstalled at the end of the installation process.
Yes. You must temporarily remove the rear threshold plate and partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights to access the grommet and route the T-connector wiring harness. These items are reinstalled at the end of the installation process, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Before drilling, you must verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and/or personal injury, and you must not drill into any exposed surfaces. The hole is drilled at a suitable grounding point near the connector after cleaning dirt and rustproofing from the area. The white wire is then secured using the eyelet and screw provided.
Yes. On the driver's side, you must slit the grommet enough to allow the trailer wiring harness access to the taillight assemblies. After routing the T-connector with yellow and brown wires through the grommet, you reseat the grommet. The same process is repeated on the passenger's side for the T-connector end with the green wire.
The T-One® T-Connector uses color-coded wires: yellow wire connects to the driver's side 2-pin connector; brown wire connects to the driver's side 3-pin connector; green wire connects to the passenger's side (repeating the same connections as the driver's side); white wire is the ground wire, drilled and secured to a grounding point; and black wire connects to the vehicle's positive battery terminal through a 15 amp fuse holder. The black wire from the T-One® black box module is connected to the vehicle's black 12 gauge wire using a yellow butt connector.
A 15 amp fuse is used in the T-One® T-Connector. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit and is connected between the black 12 gauge wire and the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. The fuse protects the circuit from overload.
From inside the vehicle, connect the black 12 gauge wire from the T-One® black box to the vehicle's black 12 gauge wire using the supplied yellow butt connector. Then route the black wire either through a grommet and along the exterior frame, or follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire. If routing through a grommet and along the exterior, be careful to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire.
After disconnecting the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable, cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Then reconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder. Do not exceed the product ratings or towing manufacturing rating stated in your vehicle owner's manual.
On the driver's side, locate and disconnect the black 2-pin connector, then insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place, ensuring connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Then locate and disconnect the black 3-pin connector and insert the T-Connector end with the brown wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Repeat this process on the passenger's side using the T-Connector end with the green wire, connecting to the same connector types.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and/or personal injury, and do not drill into exposed surfaces. When routing wires, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any points that may pinch or break the wire. Do not exceed the product ratings or towing manufacturing rating stated in your vehicle owner's manual, as overloading circuits can cause fires. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery.
All connections must be complete for the T-One® T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. This ensures all connections are working correctly before towing.
Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place and mount the T-One® black box module to prevent damage or rattling. The module should be secured away from areas where it could be struck or cause interference with vehicle operation.
Secure the remainder of the T-One® T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. When reinstalling the taillight housing assemblies, position the vehicle wiring harness between the housing and the vehicle body, and be careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
Store the 4-flat connector in the trunk area when not in use. This protects it from damage and keeps it readily available for when you need to tow.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector (part number 118697-037) is designed specifically for the Acura TLX.
Yes, you must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before connecting to the positive terminal. Reconnect it after all connections are complete and the 15 amp fuse is installed.
A 15 amp fuse is used in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit.
Do not exceed the product ratings or towing manufacturing rating stated in your vehicle owner's manual. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Always wear safety glasses during installation.
