Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-One® T-Connector is a trailer wiring harness that provides a connection point for towing equipment on a Toyota Prius. It integrates into the vehicle's existing taillight wiring system and includes a black box module that houses the electrical connections. The connector allows you to safely connect a trailer's electrical system to your vehicle's lighting circuits.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector part 118701-037 is designed for the Toyota Prius. The manual does not specify model year range, trim levels, or other variants, so contact the manufacturer or a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific Prius model year and configuration.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10mm socket and ratchet (or 10mm wrench), drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. A utility knife is also needed to slit the rubber grommet during installation.
The kit includes: a black box module, T-Connector ends with yellow, green, and red wires, a white ground wire with eyelet and screw, two yellow butt connectors, a yellow fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, cable ties, and a 4-flat connector for storage in the trunk when not in use.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal. This is a critical safety step to prevent electrical shock and short circuits during installation.
Open the trunk and temporarily remove the rear threshold plate. Partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights to access the taillight wiring harness and the rubber grommet underneath the floor covering toward the rear of the vehicle.
On the driver's side, locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connector. Separate it carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle's wiring connectors and lock it into place, ensuring the locking tabs are fully engaged. Repeat this process on the passenger's side using the T-Connector end with the green wire, routing it behind the panels and along the threshold.
Route the T-Connector end with the red wire through the rubber grommet in the trunk area (located under the floor covering toward the rear). Unseat the grommet and pass the connector through the hole to the underside of the vehicle. Underneath the vehicle on the driver's side, locate the black two-pin connector near the rear of the taillight assembly. Separate it carefully, then insert the T-Connector end with the red wire between the vehicle's wiring connectors and lock it into place.
With the grommet exposed, use a utility knife to slit the grommet. Place the red wire in the slit and reseat the grommet to hold the wire in place and protect it from the vehicle's edges.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, then secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Drill a 3/32" hole for the white ground wire. This hole is used to secure the eyelet and screw that attach the ground wire to a suitable grounding point near the connector.
From inside the vehicle, connect the black 12 gauge wire and the black wire from the T-Connector black box using the supplied yellow butt connector. Route this wire either through a grommet and along the exterior frame, or follow existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire. If routing externally, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and other pinch points.
The T-Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. The fuse holder is provided with the kit. Install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder after reconnecting the vehicle's negative battery cable.
Disconnect the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable. Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. After all connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The T-Connector uses four wire colors: yellow (driver's side taillight connection), green (passenger's side taillight connection), red (underside two-pin connector for rear lighting), and white (ground wire). The black wires are from the black box module and connect to the battery circuit via the fuse holder.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces. When routing wires externally, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and pinch points. Do not exceed the product's amperage rating or the vehicle's towing manufacturer rating to prevent circuit overload and fires. Read and follow all warnings printed on the vehicle's battery.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.
Mount the black box module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location to prevent damage or rattling. Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. Replace carpet and any other clips or panels that were removed during installation, taking care not to cut or pinch the wires.
Store the 4-flat connector in the trunk area when not in use.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating (including the rating in your vehicle's owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Refer to the product documentation and your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact amperage specification.
