Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2016-2016 Scion iM, 2019-2024 Toyota Corolla, 2017-2018 Toyota Corolla iM Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118729 (Part #TK118729) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is a vehicle wiring harness that integrates with your Scion iM's existing taillight wiring to provide a 4-Flat trailer connector. It taps into the vehicle's lighting circuits on both the driver and passenger sides, routes power from the battery through a fused connection, and provides a grounded connection point. The 4-Flat connector is stored in the rear cargo area when not in use.
Yes, the T-Connector (part number 118729-037) is designed for the Scion iM. The manual provides installation instructions specific to this vehicle model.
You will need: Trim Panel Remover, 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench, Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, Wire Crimpers, Wire Cutters, Philips Head Screwdriver, and Test-probe. These tools are required to remove trim panels, disconnect battery, drill the grounding hole, crimp wire connections, and test the installation.
The T-Connector kit includes: two T-Connector ends (one with yellow and brown wires for driver's side, one with green and red wires for passenger's side), a black 12 gauge power wire, a black box-module, a white grounding wire with eyelet and screw, a yellow fuse holder with 15 amp fuse, a yellow butt connector, cable ties, and a 4-Flat connector for storage in the rear cargo area.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable before making the final electrical connections to the battery. This is done in Step 7, after routing the power wire to the engine compartment. The battery is reconnected in Step 9 after the fuse is installed.
You must partially remove all floor coverings, cargo trays, plastic threshold cover, access panels, and trim panels from the rear cargo area to locate the vehicle's wiring connectors. Be careful not to damage clips or screws during removal. These items are reinstalled in Step 10 after the T-Connector is connected.
Beginning on the driver's side, separate the vehicle's wiring connectors carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow and brown wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Repeat this process on the passenger's side using the T-Connector with the green and red wire, routing it below the threshold cover to the passenger's side taillight housing.
Drilling is required only for the grounding connection. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white grounding wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing the wire.
Mount the black box-module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location to prevent damage or rattling. The exact location is left to your judgment, but it should be secure and not interfere with vehicle operation or cargo.
On the driver's side, locate the black 12 gauge power wire from the T-Connector box. Attach the black 12 gauge wire provided. Route the black wire along the exterior frame or follow existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire. If routing through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, carefully avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any other points that may pinch or break the wire.
After disconnecting the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable, remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's Positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. This creates a fused connection between the battery and the T-Connector box.
The T-Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. The yellow fuse holder is provided with the kit. Install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder in Step 9 after reconnecting the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable.
Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. This applies to all exposed wiring after the main connections are made.
After reconnecting the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable and installing the 15 amp fuse, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. This ensures all connections are complete and functioning properly.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The T-Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Always read your vehicle's owner's manual and the instruction sheet for additional information on towing capacity and electrical limits.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery. Verify what is behind any surface prior to drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces or the vehicle floor or bed. Be careful when routing the power wire to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and pinch points.
Store the 4-Flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use. This keeps it protected and readily accessible for when you need to tow.
After all wiring connections are complete, reconnect the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable. Then install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder from Step 7. This restores power to the system safely with the fuse in place to protect the circuit.
Yes. In Step 10, reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items that were removed during installation. Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires when reinstalling these components.
Yes, the T-Connector (part 118729-037) is designed for the Scion iM.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The circuit is protected by a 15 amp fuse.
Verify that all connections are complete. The manual states that all connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Check that: (1) the T-Connector ends are fully locked into the vehicle wiring connectors on both driver and passenger sides, (2) the white grounding wire is securely fastened, (3) the black power wire is properly connected to the battery through the fuse holder with the 15 amp fuse installed, and (4) the yellow butt connector is secure. Test with a test light or trailer and reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key.
A repeatedly blown 15 amp fuse indicates an electrical overload or short circuit. Possible causes include: (1) exceeding the product's amperage rating or the towing manufacturer's rating, (2) a short circuit in the wiring, (3) improper connection of the power wire to the battery, or (4) a damaged wire that is contacting a hot surface or metal frame. Disconnect the battery immediately and inspect all wiring connections, especially where the power wire may have been pinched or damaged during routing. Do not reinstall the fuse until the cause is identified and corrected.
