Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2016-2021 Nissan Altima Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118731 (Part #TK118731) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-One® T-Connector is a vehicle-mounted wiring harness that provides a connection point for towing equipment. It taps into the vehicle's taillight wiring on both driver and passenger sides and includes a black box module that houses the electrical connections. The connector allows you to attach a trailer or towing equipment without modifying the vehicle's factory wiring.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector (part number 118731-037) is designed for the Nissan Altima. The manual covers installation on this vehicle model.
You will need: Trim Panel Remover, 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench, Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, 1/4" Socket, Wire Crimpers, Wire Cutters, Philips Head Screwdriver, and Test-probe.
The kit includes: two T-One® T-Connector ends (one with yellow wire for driver side, one with green wire for passenger side), a black box module, a white ground wire with eyelet and screw, a 15 amp fuse in a yellow fuse holder, yellow butt connectors, cable ties, and a 4-Flat connector for storage in the trunk when not in use.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's Negative (-) battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the Positive (+) battery terminal. Reconnect the negative cable only after the fuse holder connection is complete and the 15 amp fuse is installed.
You must open the trunk, temporarily remove the rear threshold plate, and partially remove the felt trunk liner behind the taillights to access the taillight wiring harness on both driver and passenger sides.
Locate the taillight wiring harness on both sides of the vehicle. Separate the existing connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. On the driver's side, insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Route the green wire end to the passenger side behind the panels and along the threshold, then repeat the insertion process. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area first, then secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Drill a 3/32" hole for the white ground wire. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling, then secure the wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
The T-One® T-Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit and must be connected between the black 12 gauge wire and the vehicle's Positive (+) battery terminal.
From inside the vehicle, connect the black 12 gauge wire from the T-One® black box to the black wire from the vehicle using the supplied yellow butt connector. Route this wire either through a grommet and along the exterior frame, or follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire. At the battery, disconnect the Negative (-) cable first. Cut the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's Positive (+) battery cable, and connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector. Install the 15 amp fuse and reconnect the Negative (-) battery cable.
The T-Connector has four main wires: yellow wire (driver side taillight connection), green wire (passenger side taillight connection), white wire (ground connection to vehicle frame), and black wire (power connection to vehicle battery through a 15 amp fuse). The yellow and green wires tap into the existing taillight harness. The white wire is grounded to the vehicle frame using an eyelet and screw. The black wire connects to the vehicle's Positive (+) battery terminal through the fuse holder.
Yes, you can route the black 12 gauge wire through a grommet and along the exterior frame. However, you must be careful to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Alternatively, you can follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery.
Mount the T-One® T-Connector's black box module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place to prevent damage or rattling. The location should not interfere with vehicle operation or access.
Secure the remainder of the T-One® T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. After securing the harness, replace the carpet and any other clips or panels that were removed during installation, being careful not to cut or pinch the wires.
All connections must be complete for the T-One® T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The manual does not specify the product's own amperage rating; refer to the product label or contact the manufacturer for this information.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces. When routing wires, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any areas that may pinch or break the wire. Read and follow all warnings printed on the vehicle's battery before connecting to the battery terminals.
Store the 4-Flat connector in the trunk area when not in use.
Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the stated product ratings or the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual). Always respect the lower of the two amperage limits.
