Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2018-2021 Chevrolet Equinox Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118750 (Part #TK118750) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, this T-Connector is designed for the Chevrolet Equinox. The installation involves removing the taillights on both driver and passenger sides and connecting the T-Connector harness to the vehicle's existing taillight wiring.
The T-Connector is a trailer wiring harness that integrates with your vehicle's taillight system. It connects to the existing taillight wiring on both sides of the vehicle and provides a 4-Flat connector for trailer hookup, allowing you to safely power trailer lights from your vehicle's electrical system.
You will need: Trim Panel Remover, 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench, Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, 1/4" socket, Wire Crimpers, Wire Cutters, Phillips Head Screwdriver, Test-probe, and Torx 10 driver.
The kit includes: double-sided tape for mounting the black box module, eyelet and screw for the ground wire, white ground wire, black 12 ga. power wire, yellow fuse holder with 15 amp fuse, yellow butt connector, cable ties, and the T-Connector harness with yellow and green wire ends.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable before connecting the power wire to the battery. The negative cable is reconnected after the fuse holder is installed and the 15 amp fuse is inserted.
Open the rear tailgate. On both the driver and passenger sides, remove two Torx-10 screws. Carefully pull each taillight away from the vehicle, being careful not to damage the alignment pins. Remove the taillight housing and set aside.
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness on both driver and passenger sides. Separate the existing connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Plug the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the mating plugs on the driver's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness. Repeat on the passenger side with the green wire end.
Mount the black box underneath the vehicle behind the rear bumper fascia on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Ensure the module is in a protected area where it cannot be damaged by road debris or objects driven over. The epoxy side of the module must point towards the ground to prevent water buildup. Verify that the trailer's wire harness has adequate length to reach this mounting point.
Route the yellow wire end up between the bumper and vehicle body into the taillight pocket on the driver's side. Route the green wire end to the passenger's side and the 4-Flat connector underneath the bumper. Route the green wire end up through the opening on the passenger side. Route the black power wire along the exterior frame or follow existing wiring along thresholds into the engine compartment. Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Secure the harness with cable ties provided.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember—do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling. Verify what is behind any surface prior to drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Drill a 3/32" hole. This hole is used to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided in the kit.
Locate the black 12 ga. power wire from the T-Connector box on the driver's side. Attach the black 12 ga. wire provided and route it along the exterior frame or follow existing wiring along thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Disconnect the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable. Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal, and secure it to the vehicle's Positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Reconnect the Negative (−) battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The fuse rating is 15 amp. Install the 15 amp fuse into the yellow fuse holder after all other connections are complete and the Negative (−) battery cable has been reconnected.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area. Drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product and printed on the vehicle's battery before beginning. Verify what is behind any surface prior to drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces. When routing wires, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Ensure the module is mounted in a protected area away from road debris. Do not exceed the vehicle's towing manufacturer rating or the product's amperage ratings.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Mount the 4-Flat connector end in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box (not included). Route the 4-Flat harness underneath and to the center of the vehicle.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires.
