Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector is a trailer wiring interface for the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. It connects between the vehicle's taillight wiring harness on both driver and passenger sides, allowing you to connect a trailer's electrical system to the vehicle's lighting circuits. The connector includes a black box module, wiring harness with colour-coded wires (yellow, green, white, and black), and a fused power connection to the vehicle battery.
The T-Connector 118754-037 is designed specifically for the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. The manual does not confirm compatibility with other model years or vehicles. Verify your vehicle year and model before purchasing.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, Torx 30 driver, drill with 3/32" drill bit, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and test probe. Safety glasses are also required.
The T-Connector kit includes: the T-Connector harness with colour-coded wires (yellow, green, white, black), a black box module, double-sided tape for mounting the black box, cable ties for securing the harness, a white wire eyelet and screw for grounding, a yellow fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, a yellow butt connector, and a ring terminal for battery connection.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable before connecting the power supply to the battery. The manual states: "Disconnect the vehicle's Negative (−) battery cable." After installation is complete and all connections are made, you will reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse.
You must partially remove the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays from the rear cargo area to locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness. The manual states: "Open hatch to locate the vehicle wiring inside the vehicle's rear cargo area by partially removing the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays." These items must be reinstalled at the end of installation.
On the driver's side, locate the taillight wiring harness connector. Separate the connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger's side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
On the driver's side, mount the T-Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, being careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Drilling may be required to establish a ground connection. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If no suitable ground stud exists, you may drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If one is not available, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Before drilling, clean dirt and rustproofing from the area. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Verify what is behind any surface prior to drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury.
Route the connector containing the green wire down the threshold to the passenger side of the vehicle. Beginning from the front of the vehicle, route the black 12 gauge wire rearward along the frame rail. Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, being careful to avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
Disconnect the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable. If not already removed, remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder provided. After cutting the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal and secure it to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. After all connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The power wire is black and 12 gauge (12 ga.). It connects from the fuse holder to the vehicle's positive battery terminal and must be routed along the frame rail from the front of the vehicle rearward, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, and the fuel tank.
A 15 amp fuse is used. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit. After installation is complete and the negative battery cable is reconnected, install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. When routing wires, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Do not exceed the product's stated amperage ratings or the towing manufacturer's rating to prevent circuit overload and fire.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse before testing.
After all wiring is complete and tested, reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items that were removed during installation. Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires when reinstalling these components. Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The manual does not specify the T-Connector's own amperage rating; refer to the product label or contact the manufacturer. Overloading circuits can cause fires.

Be careful not to damage the locking tabs. If the connectors still do not lock, do not force them; contact the manufacturer or an authorized installer.
