Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-One® Connector is a vehicle-integrated trailer wiring harness designed for the Toyota Camry. It provides a connection point for trailer lighting by tapping into the vehicle's existing taillight wiring. The connector includes a black box module, wiring harness with color-coded wires (yellow, green, and white), and a 4-flat connector for trailer use.
The T-One® Connector (part number 118763-037) is designed for the Toyota Camry. The manual does not specify which model years or trim levels are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or your installer to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle year and configuration.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test-probe. The manual recommends having a test light or trailer available to verify the installation after completion.
The kit includes: double-sided tape for mounting the black box, cable ties for securing the harness, an eyelet and screw for the ground wire, a yellow fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, a ring terminal, and a yellow butt connector. A 4-flat connector is also included for trailer connection.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery cable in step 7. After all electrical connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse.
Open the trunk and remove the threshold panel. Partially remove the corner felt trunk liner on both sides to expose the vehicle's taillight wiring harness. You may also need to remove plastic trim panels, storage covers, and floor covering during installation, which must be reinstalled afterward.
On the driver's side, insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors and lock into place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat on the passenger's side with the green wire connector, routing it down the threshold to the passenger side taillight pocket.
Mount the T-One® black box on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, being careful to avoid areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Drilling may be required for the ground connection. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If no existing ground point is available, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Always verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury.
Use a 3/32" drill bit. This hole is for securing the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
The T-One® Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. This fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit and must be installed after all electrical connections are complete and the negative battery cable is reconnected.
The T-One® Connector uses three color-coded wires: yellow wire (driver's side taillight connection), green wire (passenger's side taillight connection), and white wire (ground connection). The black wire (12 gauge) connects to the positive battery terminal through the fuse holder.
After disconnecting the negative battery cable, cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. After all connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The black wire is 12 gauge (12 ga.). This wire connects the fuse holder to the vehicle's positive battery terminal via the yellow butt connector provided.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or exposed surfaces. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Do not exceed the towing manufacturing rating stated in your vehicle owner's manual or the product's amperage ratings.
The manual states that you must not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturing rating in your vehicle owner's manual or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The manual does not specify the product's amperage rating. Consult your vehicle owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for the exact amperage limit.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly.
Verify that all trim panels, threshold, storage covers, and floor covering are reinstalled carefully without pinching or cutting the wires. Ensure all electrical connections are complete and secure. Test the installation with a test light or trailer to confirm proper function. Reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key.
Store the 4-flat connector in the truck area when not in use. This protects the connector from damage and keeps it accessible for when a trailer is connected.
The T-One® Connector is designed for the Toyota Camry, but the manual does not specify which model years are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or your installer to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
Yes. Disconnect the negative battery cable before connecting the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal. Reconnect it after all electrical connections are complete and the 15 amp fuse is installed.
The T-One® Connector uses a 15 amp fuse, which is provided in the yellow fuse holder included with the kit.
Verify that all connections are complete and secure. Ensure the 15 amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder and that the negative battery cable is reconnected. Test the installation with a test light or trailer. Reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key. If the connector still does not function, check that the yellow and green wire connectors are fully inserted into the vehicle's taillight connectors with locking tabs fully engaged.
Verify that the black box is securely mounted using the double-sided tape provided. Ensure the harness is fully secured with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Check that all trim panels, threshold, and floor covering are reinstalled properly without pinching the wires. If rattling persists, inspect the cable tie placement and tighten or add additional ties as needed.
