Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-One® Connector is a trailer wiring interface that taps into your vehicle's taillight wiring harness to provide power and signal connections for a trailer. It connects to both the driver and passenger side taillights and routes power from the vehicle battery through a fused connection to a 4-Flat trailer connector.
Required tools are: Trim Panel Remover, 10mm Socket & Ratchet or 10mm Wrench, Drill with 3/32" Drill Bit, 1/4" Socket, Wire Crimpers, Wire Cutters, Phillips Head Screwdriver, Test-probe, and Torx 10 Driver.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before connecting the power wire to the battery. This is done in Step 10. After all connections are complete, you reconnect the negative battery cable in Step 11.
Open the rear tailgate. On both driver and passenger sides, remove two Torx-10 screws. Carefully pull the taillight away from the vehicle, being careful not to damage the alignment pins. Remove the taillight housing and set aside. The taillight wiring harness will be accessible behind the removed taillight.
Mount the black box underneath the vehicle behind the rear bumper fascia on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Ensure the trailer's wire harness has adequate length to reach this point. The module must be in a protected area where it cannot be damaged by road debris, and the epoxy side must face the ground to prevent water buildup.
On the driver's side, fish the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wires up between the bumper and vehicle body into the taillight pocket. Plug this end in-between the mating plugs on the driver's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness.
Route the T-One® Connector end with green wire to the passenger's side and route the 4-Flat underneath the bumper. Route the green wire end up through the opening on the passenger side, being careful to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank or other points that may pinch or break the wire. Plug it in-between the mating plugs on the passenger's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember (do not drill into vehicle floor or bed). Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill the 3/32" hole, and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and/or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Always wear safety glasses during installation.
The T-One® Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit after all connections are complete.
On the driver's side, locate the black 12 ga. power wire from the T-One® Connector box. Attach the black 12 ga. wire provided. Route the black wire along the exterior frame or follow existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery, avoiding areas that may pinch or break the wire. Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable. Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. After cutting the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal and secure it to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow butt connector provided.
The T-One® Connector uses yellow wires on the driver's side connection, green wires on the passenger's side connection, black 12 ga. wire for power from the battery, and white wire for ground. A yellow butt connector is also provided for connecting the fuse holder to the black power wire.
Route the 4-Flat harness underneath and to the center of the vehicle. Mount the 4-Flat end in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box (not included).
Secure the remainder of the T-One® Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut or melt the wire.
All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires.
After reconnecting the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable, install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder. Then test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Yes. All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt before connecting the T-One® Connector to the vehicle's taillight wiring harness.
After removing the two Torx-10 screws and carefully pulling the taillight away from the vehicle, remove the taillight housing and set it aside. You will need to reinstall it after connecting the T-One® Connector.
After all wiring connections are complete and the harness is secured with cable ties, reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering and other items that may have been removed during installation. Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires when reinstalling.
