Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The manual shows the T-One T-Connector installed on an Acura RDX and requires an 8-pin connector located behind the rear interior trim panel on the driver's side. If your RDX has this connector, the T-One should fit. However, the manual does not specify which RDX model years or trim levels are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or check your vehicle's documentation to confirm your RDX has the required 8-pin connector before purchasing.
The T-One T-Connector is a towing harness that connects to your vehicle's electrical system to provide power for a trailer. It includes an 8-pin adapter that plugs into your vehicle's factory connector, a 12-gauge power wire that connects to the battery through a 15-amp fuse, and a ground connection. The 4-flat connector is stored in the rear cargo area when not in use and pulled through the door when towing.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. The manual does not specify whether you need a helper or lifting equipment.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable before connecting the power wire to the positive battery terminal. This is done in Step 6. After the fuse holder is connected to the black 12-gauge wire using the yellow butt connector, you reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15-amp fuse.
You must remove the lower interior trim panels on the driver's side only to access the 8-pin connector behind the rear interior trim panel. You will also temporarily remove the rear threshold plate, privacy screen, storage covers, and floor covering. The manual notes that several trim panel fasteners must be removed and warns to be careful not to damage clips when removing panels.
The 8-pin connector is located behind the rear interior trim panel on the driver's side. You access it by removing the lower interior trim panels on the driver's side after opening the rear hatch, folding the rear seat forward, and removing the rear threshold plate, privacy screen, storage covers, and floor covering.
Locate the vehicle's 8-pin connector behind the rear interior trim panel. Insert the 8-pin Tow-Plug Adapter into the connector and lock it into place. The manual does not provide additional details on the locking mechanism.
Option 1: On the driver's side, locate the existing ground stud, loosen the bolt, place the screw eyelet on the stud, and re-tighten the bolt. Make sure all other ground connections are secure when removing and reattaching the ground stud. Option 2: Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember (do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed). Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill a 3/32" hole, and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury, and do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Drilling is required only if you choose Option 2 for grounding. If you use Option 1 (connecting to an existing ground stud), no drilling is needed. If you use Option 2, you must drill a 3/32" hole in a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember. You must not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and you must verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
Locate the black 12-gauge power wire from the T-Connector box on the driver's side. Attach the black 12-gauge wire provided. Route the black wire along the exterior frame or follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire. If routing the wire through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, be careful to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire.
The T-One T-Connector uses a 15-amp fuse. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided. After disconnecting the negative battery cable and cutting the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable and connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The T-One T-Connector uses a black 12-gauge power wire that connects to the battery, a white wire for grounding, a yellow fuse holder, and a yellow butt connector. The black wire is routed from the T-Connector box to the battery. The white wire is used for the ground connection (either attached to an existing ground stud or drilled and secured to a grounding point). The yellow fuse holder and yellow butt connector are used to connect the fuse to the black power wire.
Secure the remainder of the T-One T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. When reinstalling the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items removed during installation, be careful not to pinch or cut the wires. Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use. When in use, pull the 4-flat connector through the door and close the door carefully to avoid pinching the harness in the door latch.
All connections must be complete for the T-One T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. The manual does not provide detailed testing procedures beyond this.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Do not pinch the harness in the door latch. When routing the wire, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
