Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the manual confirms this connector is designed for the Mazda CX-30. The installation instructions are specific to this vehicle model, including access through the trunk and taillight wiring location.
The manual only confirms fitment for the Mazda CX-30. Compatibility with other vehicles is not addressed in this installation guide. Contact the manufacturer or check the product fitment database for other applications.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. Safety glasses are also required during installation.
The kit includes: a black box module, yellow and green connector ends, a 12 gauge black power wire, a white ground wire, an eyelet and screw for grounding, cable ties, double-sided tape, yellow butt connectors, a yellow fuse holder with a 15 amp fuse, and a ring terminal. A 4-Flat connector is also referenced for storage in the driver's side trim panel.
Yes. Step 10 requires you to disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before making the final power connections. After all wiring is complete, you reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse in step 11.
You must open the trunk and remove the threshold panel to access the taillight wiring harness. You also need to partially remove the corner felt trunk liner on both sides to expose the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors on the driver and passenger sides.
On the driver's side, insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle's wiring connectors and lock it into place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs engaged. Repeat on the passenger's side with the green wire connector end. Route the green wire connector behind the panels and along the threshold to reach the passenger side.
Mount the black box on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid areas that could cut or pinch the wire.
You may use an existing ground stud near the connector if available. If not, you must drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing the wire.
Use a 3/32" drill bit to create the grounding hole. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and verify what is behind any surface before drilling.
The black power wire is 12 gauge (12 ga.). It runs from the front of the vehicle along the frame rail to connect to the black power wire on the T-Connector's black box.
Beginning from the front of the vehicle, route the black 12 gauge wire rearward along the frame rail. Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Connect the other end to the black power wire on the T-Connector's black box using the yellow butt connector provided.
The T-One® Connector has a yellow wire on the driver's side connector end and a green wire on the passenger's side connector end. The ground wire is white, and the power wire is black (12 gauge).
A 15 amp fuse is used. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit. The fuse holder connects between the black 12 gauge power wire and the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable.
Disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable. Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. After all connections are complete, reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery before beginning. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces or the vehicle floor or bed. Avoid pinching or cutting wires when reinstalling trim panels. The manual does not specify the amperage rating of the T-One® Connector itself. However, it states you must not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Check the product label or contact the manufacturer for the specific amperage rating.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly.
Reinstall all plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items that were removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires. Route the 4-Flat connector through the driver's side trim panel into the storage compartment on the threshold and store it there when not in use. Test the installation with a test light or trailer to verify proper function.
The manual does not specify any ongoing maintenance requirements for the T-One® Connector. However, you should periodically verify that all connections remain secure and that wires are not pinched or damaged, especially after any vehicle service or repairs.
This connector is designed for the Mazda CX-30. Compatibility with other vehicles is not addressed in this manual. Check the product fitment database or contact the manufacturer for other applications.
Drilling is required only if no existing ground stud is available near the connector. You drill a 3/32" hole for the white ground wire. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
Yes, disconnect the negative battery cable before making power connections. Reconnect it after all wiring is complete and the 15 amp fuse is installed.

Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle's towing manufacturer rating or the specific amperage rating stated on the product. The manual does not specify the connector's amperage rating; check the product label or contact the manufacturer.
Verify that all connections are complete. Ensure the yellow and green connector ends are fully inserted into the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors with locking tabs fully engaged. Check that the black 12 gauge power wire is securely connected to the black power wire on the black box using the yellow butt connector. Verify the fuse holder is properly connected to the vehicle's positive battery cable and the black 12 gauge wire. Confirm the white ground wire is securely attached to a ground point. Test with a test light or trailer. If still not functioning, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key.
The manual warns to be careful not to damage the locking tabs when inserting the connector ends into the vehicle's wiring connectors. If locking tabs are damaged, the connectors may not lock into place properly, preventing secure electrical contact. Do not force damaged connectors. Contact the manufacturer for a replacement connector end or black box module.
A repeatedly blown 15 amp fuse indicates an electrical overload or short circuit. Verify that you are not exceeding the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Check all wire connections for damage, corrosion, or loose contacts. Ensure the white ground wire is securely attached to a proper ground point and not corroded. Verify the black 12 gauge power wire is not pinched, cut, or touching hot surfaces. If the fuse continues to blow, there may be a short circuit in the wiring or a defective component. Do not repeatedly replace the fuse without identifying the cause, as overloading circuits can cause fires.
