Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. The T-One® Connector is a trailer tow harness that integrates with your vehicle's factory wiring to provide a connection point for a trailer. It uses a T-connector design that taps into the vehicle's existing rear lighting circuits without cutting or permanently modifying the factory wiring. The connector includes a black box module, wiring harness with brown, red, yellow, green, and black wires, and all necessary fasteners and connectors for installation.
You will need: 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. You will also need safety glasses, which are required personal protective equipment during installation.

Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before making any electrical connections. This is a required safety step performed in step 8 of the installation. The battery remains disconnected until all wiring is complete and the 15 amp fuse is installed in step 11.
You must partially remove the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays to access the rear cargo area wiring. On the passenger side, you must remove the side trim panel cover to access the vehicle battery. You will also need to access the underside of the vehicle near the rear bumper cover on the driver's side. All removed panels and covers must be reinstalled at the end of installation.
The black box is mounted on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. It should be mounted near the connector in the rear cargo area. The harness must be secured with the cable ties provided to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid areas that could cut or pinch the wire.
The connector uses a T-connector design with two insertion points. On the driver's side in the rear cargo area, insert the T-One® Connector end with the brown and red wires between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place (step 2). Underneath the vehicle near the rear bumper cover on the driver's side, insert the T-One® Connector end with the green and yellow wires between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place (step 4). Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.

You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided, unless you can locate an existing ground stud near the connector. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing the ground wire.
Yes. You must locate the grommet on the driver's side in the rear cargo area and carefully slit it. The yellow and green wires are then routed through the slit in the grommet to reach the underside connector point.
The black 12 gauge power wire begins at the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable on the passenger side, where it connects via a ring terminal and yellow fuse holder containing a 15 amp fuse. The wire is then routed across the threshold from the passenger side battery compartment to the driver's side cargo area, where it connects to the black power wire on the T-One® black box using a yellow butt connector.
A 15 amp fuse is used. The fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit. The fuse holder is connected between the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable and the black 12 gauge power wire. The fuse must be installed in step 11 after all other connections are complete and before the negative battery cable is reconnected.
The T-One® Connector uses five wires: brown and red wires connect to the driver's side rear cargo area connector; yellow and green wires connect to the underside connector near the rear bumper; white wire is the ground wire secured to a ground stud or drilled hole; and black 12 gauge wire is the power wire connected to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable through a 15 amp fuse. Ensure the 15 amp fuse is installed and the negative battery cable is reconnected before testing.
After installation, verify that all plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, and floor covering have been reinstalled carefully without pinching or cutting the wires. Ensure all loose wires are secured and the trailer tow harness is mounted in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box. Confirm that the 15 amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder and the negative battery cable is reconnected. Test the installation with a test light or trailer before towing.
