Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. The T-One® Connector is a trailer towing harness integration device that connects between your vehicle's taillight wiring and a trailer tow harness. It allows you to safely route power and ground signals from your vehicle's electrical system to a trailer without modifying the factory taillight wiring. The connector includes a black box module, wiring harness with yellow and green connector ends, a 15 amp fuse holder, and all necessary hardware for installation.

Open the rear hatch and partially remove the plastic threshold cover, side panels, and cargo trays to expose the vehicle's taillight wiring harness inside the rear cargo area. Using a 10mm socket or wrench, remove the 10mm bolts holding the cargo hooks in place. This exposes the taillight sockets where you will insert the T-One® Connector ends.
1. Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from both taillight sockets and separate the connectors carefully without breaking the locking tabs. 2. On the driver's side, insert the T-One® Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place, ensuring locking tabs are fully engaged. 3. On the passenger's side, insert the T-One® Connector end with the green wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before insertion.
Mount the black box on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the T-One® Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.

The fuse rating is 15 amps. The yellow fuse holder provided in the kit contains a 15 amp fuse. After installation is complete and all wiring is connected, install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder.

Black wire (12 ga.): power wire from the vehicle's positive (+) battery terminal to the black box module. White wire: ground wire from the black box module to a vehicle ground point. Beginning from the front of the vehicle, route the black 12 ga. wire rearward along the frame rail. Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any other points that may pinch or break the wire. If routing the wire through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, exercise extra caution to avoid these hazards. The wire must reach from the positive battery terminal to the black box module on the driver's side.
Route the T-One® Connector end with the green wire to the passenger's side behind the panels and along the threshold to the taillight pocket. Secure the harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, and be careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces or the vehicle floor or bed. When routing wires, avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Do not exceed the product's stated amperage ratings or the towing manufacturer's rating, as overloading circuits can cause fires.
After reconnecting the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable and installing the 15 amp fuse, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly.
Reinstall all plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items that were removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires. Secure all loose wires and mount the trailer tow harness in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer, and reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Do not exceed the lower of two ratings: the towing manufacturer's rating (including the rating in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the T-One® Connector product. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the product documentation for the exact amperage limits applicable to your vehicle and trailer.
