Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-One® Connector is a trailer tow harness module that integrates with your vehicle's tail light wiring to provide trailer lighting connections. It uses a black box module mounted underneath the vehicle that intercepts signals from the tail lights and routes them to a trailer connector. The system requires a 15 amp fuse and connects to the vehicle's battery for power.
Yes, the T-One® Connector (part number 118864-037) is designed for the Toyota Corolla Cross. The manual specifically identifies this vehicle as the application.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. A fish wire is recommended (though not required) to help pull the harness through the rear fascia opening.
The kit includes: a black box module with double-sided tape for mounting, a white ground wire with eyelet and screw, a yellow fuse holder with 15 amp fuse, two yellow butt connectors, and the T-One® Connector harness with yellow, brown, green, and black wires. All fasteners and connectors needed for installation are provided.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before connecting the power wiring in step 9. After all wiring connections are complete and the fuse is installed, you reconnect the negative battery cable in step 12.
Yes. You must remove both the driver's and passenger's tail lights to access and disconnect their wiring connectors. Use a 10mm socket to remove the mounting screws on both sides. Be careful not to break the trim panel mounting tabs. The tail lights are then set aside during installation and reinstalled at the end.
Yes. You must open the hatch and locate and remove the trim panels that cover the tail light mounting screws before you can access and remove the tail lights.
Route the harness containing the yellow wire (driver's side) and green wire (passenger's side) up through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body to reach each tail light pocket. The manual recommends using a fish wire between the tail light pocket and rear fascia to help pull the harness from underneath the vehicle through the tail light pocket opening.
The T-One® Connector has two ends that match the vehicle's tail light connectors. Insert the T-One® end with the yellow wire between the 4-pin connector on the driver's side. Insert the T-One® end with the brown wire between the 2-pin connector on the driver's side. On the passenger's side, insert the T-One® end with the green wire between the 4-pin connector, and insert the vehicle's 2-pin connector into the matching socket in the tail light assembly. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before connecting.
Mount the black box module underneath the vehicle behind the rear bumper fascia on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Before mounting, clean the flat surface area with a 50-50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. The epoxy side of the module must point toward the ground to prevent water buildup.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the black box, such as an existing ground stud. If no suitable stud exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing the ground wire.
Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable. Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Route the black 12 gauge wire from the front of the vehicle rearward along the frame rail, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and other points that may pinch or break the wire. Connect the other end of the black 12 gauge wire to the black power wire on the T-One® black box using the yellow butt connector provided.
The T-One® Connector uses a 15 amp fuse. The fuse holder is provided in the kit and must be installed in step 9 after all wiring connections are complete.
Drilling may be required only for the ground wire installation. If a suitable existing ground stud is not available near the black box, you must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. All other installation steps do not require drilling.
The T-One® Connector harness contains four wires: yellow wire (driver's side tail light signal), brown wire (driver's side tail light signal, 2-pin connector), green wire (passenger's side tail light signal), and black wire (12 gauge power wire from battery). The white wire is the ground wire. Each wire has a specific function in routing tail light signals and power to the trailer connector.
Route the black 12 gauge power wire from the front of the vehicle rearward along the frame rail. Avoid any hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, or other points that may pinch or break the wire. If routing through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, exercise extra caution to avoid these hazards.
Route the harness containing the yellow wire (driver's side) and green wire (passenger's side) up through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body to the respective tail light pockets. If routing through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, avoid any hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, or other points that may pinch or break the wires.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning. Follow all warnings and cautions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly.
Reinstall all plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items that were removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires. Secure all loose wires and mount the trailer tow harness in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box.
