Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector is an electrical integration device that connects your vehicle's taillight wiring to a trailer. It intercepts the factory taillight connectors on both the driver and passenger sides, allowing the vehicle's lighting signals to be transmitted to the trailer. The system includes a black box control module, wiring harness with colour-coded ends (yellow and green), and a 4-flat connector for the trailer.
The manual does not specify vehicle make, model, year, bed length, cab style or drivetrain compatibility. Before purchasing, contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's details to confirm fitment. The product requires a driver's side power cable stud and taillight wiring harnesses on both driver and passenger sides.
You will need: 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench, trim panel remover, drill with 3/32" drill bit, and Phillips head screwdriver. The T-Connector kit includes double-sided tape, eyelet, screw, cable ties, and 10-amp fuse.
The kit includes the T-Connector harness with colour-coded ends (yellow and green wires), black box control module, double-sided tape, eyelet, screw for grounding, cable ties, 10-amp fuse, and 4-flat connector for the trailer.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or the manufacturer before beginning installation.
You must open the tailgate and remove the cargo door on the floor, then carefully remove the floor trim panels and access panels on each side of the vehicle. Set aside all removed items carefully to avoid damage. These panels are replaced at the end of installation (step 9).
On the driver's side, locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness inside the access panel area. Separate the factory connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle's wiring connectors and lock into place, ensuring the locking tabs are fully engaged. Repeat on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before connecting.
On the driver's side, route the T-Connector end with the green wire through the trim panel access hole, across the threshold, and through the passenger trim panel access hole. This allows the harness to span both sides of the vehicle to connect both taillight circuits.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white grounding wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember (do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed). Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill the hole, and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
You need a 3/32" drill bit. Drill the hole at a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember, not the floor or bed.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector such as the vehicle's frame or crossmember. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill a 3/32" hole, and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
The T-Connector harness has colour-coded ends: yellow wire connects to the driver's side taillight circuit, green wire connects to the passenger's side taillight circuit, and white wire is the ground connection. The yellow wire also carries power from the vehicle's power cable stud to the control module via a 10-amp fuse.
On the driver's side, locate the power cable stud. Using a wrench or socket, remove the nut and place the ring terminal with the yellow wire on the stud. Replace the nut and tighten. Then install the 10-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
The T-Connector uses a 10-amp fuse, which is installed in the fuse holder on the yellow wire circuit connected to the vehicle's power cable stud.
Mount the black box in the driver's side storage area. Clean a flat area using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water, then secure the black box using the double-sided tape provided.
Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage, rattling, and being careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: maximum stop/turn light 1 per side (2.1 amps) or maximum tail lights (5.6 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling the 3/32" hole.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. Ensure all connectors are fully locked in place with locking tabs engaged, the grounding wire is secure, the power connection is tight, the fuse is installed, and the black box is mounted.
After installation, replace both access panels, floor trim panels, and cargo door that were removed. Verify all connector locking tabs are fully engaged on both driver and passenger sides. Confirm the grounding wire eyelet is secure, the yellow wire ring terminal is tight on the power stud, the 10-amp fuse is installed, and the black box is mounted securely. Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
A 10-amp fuse installed in the fuse holder on the yellow wire circuit.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps) or tail lights (5.6 amps). Overloading can cause fires.
