Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite Module TK118461 (Part #TK118461) fits 2006-2007 Subaru B9 Tribeca models. The 2014 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The Tekonsha T-One T-Connector Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite Module TK118461 (Part #TK118461) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector 118370-037 is designed for Subaru Forester, Outback, and Tribeca models. Your vehicle must have a factory trailer plug harness for the T-Connector to work. Check your vehicle's owners manual or the trailer plug location guide in these instructions to confirm your model is compatible.
A T-Connector is a trailer wiring adapter that connects to your vehicle's factory trailer plug harness. It allows you to connect a trailer to your vehicle's electrical system for brake lights, turn signals, and tail lights. The T-Connector must be fully inserted into the vehicle's trailer plug harness to function properly.
You will need a trim panel remover and a test-probe. These tools are required to access the vehicle's trailer plug harness, which may be located behind interior access panels. After installation, you will also need a test light or trailer to verify the installation works correctly.
On a Forester, the vehicle's trailer plug harness is located in the spare tire area on the passenger's side. It may be positioned either under the threshold or under the carpet panel near the passenger side interior trim panel. You may need to remove the spare tire to access it.
On some Outback and Tribeca models, the vehicle's trailer plug is located on the driver's side behind the interior access panel for the taillamp assembly. However, the manual does not provide detailed location information for all Outback and Tribeca variants. Consult your vehicle's owners manual for the exact location on your specific model.
Yes. You must open the trunk or hatch on your vehicle to locate and access the vehicle's trailer plug harness. The plug location varies by model but is always accessed from inside the vehicle.
1. Open the trunk or hatch and locate the vehicle's trailer plug harness. 2. Remove the tape on the vehicle's plug. 3. Insert the T-Connector into the vehicle's trailer plug harness. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. After installation, test and verify with a test light or trailer.
Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided in the kit. Route the harness carefully to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. This prevents damage, rattling, and potential electrical hazards. On some models, the T-Connector may be routed and stored in the spare tire well or in the storage compartment next to the vehicle's access panel.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or these limits: maximum 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps), and maximum tail lights (4.2 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owners manual and the T-Connector instruction sheet for additional information on your specific vehicle's towing capacity.
After installation, test and verify the T-Connector with a test light or by connecting an actual trailer. This confirms that all connections are complete and the T-Connector is functioning properly. The manual requires this verification step before using the T-Connector with a trailer.
Wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning. Use all safety precautions during installation. Secure the T-Connector harness with provided cable ties to prevent damage and avoid pinching, cutting, or melting the wire. Do not exceed the maximum electrical load limits to prevent fires.
Yes, the T-Connector 118370-037 is designed for Subaru Forester, Outback, and Tribeca models with a factory trailer plug harness. Your vehicle must have this factory harness for the T-Connector to work.
No drilling or permanent modifications are required. The T-Connector simply inserts into the vehicle's existing factory trailer plug harness. You may need to remove interior trim panels to access the plug location.
Maximum 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps) and maximum tail lights (4.2 amps). Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or these limits, as overloading can cause fires.
Test the T-Connector with a test light or by connecting a trailer. All connections must be complete for proper function. Verify that brake lights, turn signals, and tail lights work correctly.
