Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector end with the yellow wire goes on the driver's side. Plug it in between the mating plugs on the driver's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness.
From the driver's side, route the T-Connector end with the green wire and the 4-flat connector down through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body. Route the green wire end to the passenger's side and route the 4-flat underneath the bumper. Then route the green wire end up through the opening on the passenger side. Route carefully to avoid areas that could damage wiring.

Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. However, you may also use an existing ground stud if one is available near the connector. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed, and do not drill into exposed surfaces. Always verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If no stud is available, drill a 3/32" hole. Secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed.
The T-Connector uses a 10 amp fuse. The fuse holder is provided with the kit. Install the 10 amp fuse into the fuse holder after all wiring connections are complete and the negative battery cable has been reconnected.
After disconnecting the negative battery cable, remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder provided. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 gauge wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Do not install the 10 amp fuse until all connections are complete and the negative battery cable is reconnected.
The black power wire is 12 gauge (12 ga.).
Beginning from the front of the vehicle, route the black 12 gauge wire rearward along the frame rail. Route it carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Continue to the rear driver's side and locate the opening between the vehicle rear bumper and body. Route the wire up through this hole to the taillight area.
The black 12 gauge wire connects to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the supplied yellow butt connector.
Mount the T-Connector black box behind the taillight assembly on the driver's side. Clean a flat area using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water, then mount the black box using the double-sided tape provided.
Mount the 4-flat connector in a suitable location under the vehicle. A bracket is not included with the kit, so you will need to source an appropriate bracket separately.
Secure all loose wiring using the cable ties provided. After reinstalling the taillight housing assemblies, secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with cable ties to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or by connecting an actual trailer. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual and the instruction sheet for additional information.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or the following limits: maximum stop/turn light is 1 per side (2.1 amps), and maximum tail lights is 5.6 amps.
