Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The T-Connector is a wiring harness that allows you to connect a trailer to your vehicle's electrical system. It interfaces with your vehicle's taillight wiring to provide power for trailer lights. The kit includes a black box connector, wiring harnesses with yellow/brown wires (driver side) and red/green wires (passenger side), a white ground wire, fuse holder, and hardware for installation.
Yes, the T-Connector is designed for the Cruze. However, the manual does not specify which model years are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or your dealer to confirm your specific Cruze year and trim are supported.
You will need: 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, and a test probe. You should also wear safety glasses during installation.
The kit includes: T-Connector harnesses with yellow/brown wires (driver side) and red/green wires (passenger side), a black box connector, a white ground wire with eyelet and screw, yellow butt connectors, a yellow fuse holder with a 10 amp fuse, double-sided tape, and cable ties. A 4-flat connector is also included for storage in the trunk when not in use.
Yes. You must disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal before beginning installation. Do not reconnect it until step 7, after all other connections are complete.
Open the trunk and remove the threshold panel. Partially remove the corner felt trunk liner on both the driver and passenger sides to expose the vehicle's taillight wiring harness. All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt before connecting.
On the driver's side, plug the T-Connector harness containing the yellow/brown wires between the vehicle's mating connectors. On the passenger side, insert the T-Connector end with the red/green wires between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Be careful not to break the locking tabs when separating the original connectors.
Yes. You must drill one 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. The hole should be drilled into a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle's frame or cross member. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or any exposed surfaces. Always verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle's frame or cross member. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area. Drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the kit.
From inside the trunk, connect the black 12 ga. wire and the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the supplied yellow butt connector. Route the black wire either through a grommet and along the exterior frame, or follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or break the wire.
Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder if not already removed. Cut the fuse holder wire and attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow butt connector provided. Finally, install the 10 amp fuse into the fuse holder.
Install a 10 amp fuse into the yellow fuse holder. This fuse is provided with the kit.
On the driver's side of the trunk, mount the T-Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire. Replace the trunk threshold and felt trunk liner when finished.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or these limits: maximum 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps), maximum tail lights (5.6 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
Store the 4-flat connector in the trunk area when not in use.
The T-Connector (118508-037) is designed for the Cruze, but the manual does not specify model years. Confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before purchasing.
Install a 10 amp fuse in the yellow fuse holder provided with the kit.
Maximum 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps) and maximum tail lights (5.6 amps). Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or these limits. Overloading can cause fires.
Verify that all connections are complete. Check that: (1) the taillight harnesses are fully connected on both driver and passenger sides with locking tabs engaged, (2) the black and red wires are connected to the battery with the yellow butt connector, (3) the white ground wire is securely fastened with the eyelet and screw, and (4) the 10 amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder. Test with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
