Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 2012-2017 Toyota Prius V Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118610 (Part #TK118610) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-One® T-Connector is a vehicle wiring harness that integrates trailer lighting connections into your vehicle's electrical system. It connects to your vehicle's taillight wiring on both driver and passenger sides, allowing you to safely power trailer lights. The system includes a black box module mounted on the passenger side, a 10-amp fuse for circuit protection, and color-coded wires (green, yellow, red, white, and black) that route power and ground connections throughout the installation.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector (part number 118610-037) is designed for the Prius V. The installation instructions are specific to this vehicle model, including the location of the 12-volt battery in the cargo area on the passenger side and the taillight wiring harness configuration.
You will need: trim panel remover, 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. These tools are required to access the wiring, remove panels, drill the ground connection hole (if using Option 1), and test the installation.
The T-One® T-Connector includes: the black box module, color-coded wires (green, yellow, red, white, and black), double-sided tape for mounting the black box, cable ties for securing the harness, a 10-amp fuse and yellow fuse holder, a ring terminal, an eyelet and screw for ground connection (Option 1), and a yellow butt connector for connecting the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable before beginning installation. This is a critical safety step performed in Step 7. After all connections are complete and the 10-amp fuse is installed, you will reconnect the negative battery cable in Step 8.
The 12-volt battery is located inside the cargo area on the passenger side, underneath the floor covering in the rear corner. You will need to access this location to connect the power wire from the T-Connector to the battery's positive terminal.
On both driver and passenger sides, locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connector. Separate the connector carefully without breaking the locking tabs. On the passenger side, insert the T-One® T-Connector end with the green wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place. Route the T-One® T-Connector end with the yellow wire to the driver's side behind the panels and along the threshold, then repeat for the second yellow wire end. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt before connecting.
Drilling is required only if you choose Option 1 for the ground connection. You will need to drill a 3/32" hole on the passenger side near the connector to secure the white ground wire using the provided eyelet and screw. However, Option 2 allows you to use an existing ground stud instead, which requires no drilling. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or any exposed surfaces. Always verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
If using Option 1 for the ground connection, drill a 3/32" hole on the passenger side near the connector. The white ground wire is then secured to this hole using the provided eyelet and screw.
The T-One® T-Connector uses a 10-amp fuse. This fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder provided with the product and protects the circuit from overload. The fuse must be installed in Step 8 after all connections are complete and before reconnecting the vehicle's negative battery cable.
The T-One® T-Connector uses 12 gauge (12 ga.) wires for the power and ground connections. The red 12 ga. power wire comes from the T-Connector box, and a black 12 ga. wire is provided for connection to the battery. These heavier gauge wires are necessary to safely handle the electrical load of trailer lighting.
The T-One® T-Connector uses color-coded wires for different functions: green wire connects to the passenger-side taillight wiring, yellow wires connect to the driver-side taillight wiring (two separate yellow wire ends), red 12 ga. wire is the power wire from the T-Connector box, white wire is the ground connection, and black 12 ga. wire connects the power circuit to the vehicle battery.
The red 12 ga. power wire from the T-Connector box is connected to a black 12 ga. wire provided with the product. This black wire is then routed to the vehicle's 12-volt battery in the cargo area on the passenger side. A ring terminal is attached to the black wire and secured to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. The connection is protected by a 10-amp fuse housed in a yellow fuse holder that connects between the ring terminal and the black wire.
The yellow butt connector is used to connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire. This connector joins the fuse holder circuit to the power wire that routes to the T-Connector box, completing the power circuit protection.
Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's rating or these limits: maximum stop/turn light is 1 per side (2.1 amps) and maximum tail lights are 5.6 amps. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the T-Connector instruction sheet for additional information about your specific vehicle's electrical capacity.
Wear safety glasses during installation. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into the vehicle floor, bed, or exposed surfaces. When securing the harness with cable ties, avoid areas that could cut, pinch, or melt the wires. Read and follow all warnings and cautions printed on the vehicle battery. Ensure all connections are complete before testing or using the system.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition, then reconnecting it. All connections must be complete for the T-One® T-Connector to function properly. Use a test probe to verify power at the connector terminals if using a test light.
After installation, verify that: all connections are complete and secure, the black box is properly mounted on the passenger side using the double-sided tape, the harness is secured with cable ties to prevent damage or rattling, the 10-amp fuse is installed in the yellow fuse holder, the taillight assemblies and other removed items are reinstalled without pinching or cutting wires, and the system functions properly with a test light or trailer.
The T-One® T-Connector black box is mounted on the passenger side using the double-sided tape provided with the product. The tape should be applied to a clean, suitable surface near the taillight connector area. The remainder of the harness is then secured with cable ties to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid areas that could cut, pinch, or melt the wires.
The manual indicates that taillight assemblies and other items are removed during installation and must be reinstalled in Step 11. However, the specific instructions for removal are not detailed in the provided text. The manual references accessing the taillight wiring harness by partially removing plastic threshold covers, side access panels, or carpet panels and cargo trays, which may allow access without full taillight assembly removal. Consult the vehicle-specific diagrams or contact the manufacturer if clarification is needed.
The T-One® T-Connector uses a 10-amp fuse installed in the yellow fuse holder provided.
Verify that all connections are complete and secure. Check that the 10-amp fuse is properly installed in the yellow fuse holder. Ensure the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable is fully reconnected. Reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key and reinserting it. Test the installation with a test light or trailer. If the system still does not function, verify that all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt, and that the green and yellow wires are properly locked into the vehicle's taillight connectors.
A repeatedly blown 10-amp fuse indicates an electrical overload or short circuit. Verify that you are not exceeding the maximum electrical load: 1 stop/turn light per side (2.1 amps) or maximum tail lights (5.6 amps). Check that the vehicle manufacturer's rating is not being exceeded. Inspect all wire connections for damage, corrosion, or improper crimping that could cause a short. Ensure the ground connection (white wire) is secure and making good contact. If the problem persists, discontinue use and consult the manufacturer or a qualified technician.
