Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the 2007-2009 KIA Amanti, 2011-2020 KIA Optima Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118453 (Part #TK118453) is designed to fit the 2007-2009 Kia Amanti.
The 2007-2009 KIA Amanti, 2011-2020 KIA Optima Tekonsha Plug & Play T-Connector Adapter Trailer Wiring 118453 (Part #TK118453) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is an electrical adapter that integrates your vehicle's taillight wiring with trailer lighting. It sits between your vehicle's taillight harness connectors and allows you to connect a trailer's 4-flat connector. The single plug-in for the right turn function is located on the driver's side. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.
The manual does not specify which vehicle makes, models, years, or body styles are compatible with this T-Connector. Contact the manufacturer or your retailer with your vehicle's details to confirm fitment before purchasing.
You will need: a trim panel remover, a 10mm socket, and a ratchet. These tools are required to remove the threshold panel and work with the ground stud bolt on the driver's side.
The manual confirms that a screw is provided for securing the converter box. It does not itemize all included hardware. Confirm the contents of your kit match the parts list on the packaging or contact the manufacturer if any items are missing.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. As a safety precaution, consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified installer before beginning work on electrical systems.
You must open the trunk and remove the threshold panel. You will then partially remove the felt trunk liner on the driver's side to expose the taillight wiring. The installation takes place entirely in the trunk area.
1. Separate the existing taillight harness connectors carefully, taking care not to break the locking tabs. 2. Insert the T-Connector between the harness connectors. 3. Lock it into place, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs secured. The single plug-in for the right turn function is on the driver's side.
On the driver's side, locate the existing ground stud. Loosen the bolt on the stud, place the screw eyelet (provided) on the stud, and re-tighten the bolt. Make sure all other ground connections are secure when removing and reattaching the ground stud.
You have two options: (1) Use double-sided tape and/or cable ties to secure the black converter box and trailer wiring, or (2) Locate a suitable mounting position, drill a 3/32" hole, and secure the converter with the screw provided using the mounting tab on the converter. This prevents damage or rattling.
Drilling is optional. You may secure the converter box using double-sided tape and cable ties without drilling. However, if you choose to drill, use a 3/32" hole and secure the converter with the provided screw using the mounting tab to prevent damage or rattling.
If you choose to drill a mounting hole for the converter box, the hole size is 3/32".
The manual does not provide a torque specification for the ground stud bolt. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified installer for the correct torque value.
The T-Connector must not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: maximum stop/turn light 1 per side (2.1 amps); maximum tail lights (7.5 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Read your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or by connecting an actual trailer once installed. This confirms that all taillight functions (stop, turn, and tail lights) are working correctly.
Store the 4-flat connector in the trunk area when not in use.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact the manufacturer or retailer with your vehicle's make, model, and year to confirm fitment.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or: 2.1 amps per stop/turn light (max. 1 per side) and 7.5 amps for tail lights. Overloading can cause fires.
The manual does not specify. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a qualified installer before working on electrical systems.
