Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118285 (Part #TK118285) fits 2018-2025 Chevrolet Equinox models. The 2025 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 4-Way Flat TK118285 (Part #TK118285) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-One® Connector (part 118285-037) is designed for GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox vehicles. However, your vehicle must have relay positions K1 and K3 present in the fuse and relay panel located behind the driver's side access panel. If these relay positions are not present (terminals missing from relay cavity), you will need the T-One without tow prep package instead.
The T-One® Connector kit includes the T-Connector harness, a 6-Pin Tow-Plug Adapter, cable ties for securing the harness, and relays for positions K1 and K3 (if your vehicle does not already have relays present). The kit does not include a bracket or electrical box for mounting the 4-Flat end connector, which must be purchased separately.
You will need a Trim Panel Puller and a Test-probe. The Trim Panel Puller is used to remove the access panel on the driver's side to reach the fuse and relay panel. The Test-probe is used to verify the installation after completion.
The trailer harness connector is located under the vehicle, behind the rear bumper, on the driver's side of the vehicle. You will access it after opening the rear lift gate and removing the driver's side access panel.
Yes. Before inserting the 6-Pin Tow-Plug Adapter, check that the mating surfaces of the connectors are free of dirt and clean them if necessary. This ensures proper electrical connection.
Remove the protective cap from the connector and store it in the glove compartment. Insert the 6-Pin Tow-Plug Adapter into the connector and lock it into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place. The protective cap and installation instructions should be kept in the glove compartment for future reference.
Route the T-Connector harness rearward to the back of the fascia of the bumper. Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut or melt the wire, and secure it to prevent damage or rattling.
Mount the 4-Flat end in an accessible location. You will need a bracket or electrical box (not included with the kit) to secure it. Choose a location that is easy to reach when connecting or disconnecting a trailer.
No. If relays are already present in positions K1 and K3 of the fuse and relay panel, the included relays will not be used. Install the included relays only if no relays are present in these positions.
Relay positions K1 and K3 are both for Trailer Stop/Turn functions. These relays manage the trailer's brake and turn signal circuits.
Do not exceed the lower of two ratings: the towing manufacturing rating stated in your vehicle owner's manual, or the specific amperage ratings stated on the T-One® Connector product itself. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Consult your vehicle owner's manual and the product labeling for the exact amperage specifications.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning. Read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions printed on your tow vehicle's battery. Keep the installation instructions for future reference.
All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or by connecting an actual trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Yes, the T-One® Connector (118285-037) fits GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox. Your vehicle must have relay positions K1 and K3 in the fuse and relay panel; if not, you need the T-One without tow prep package.
You need a Trim Panel Puller and a Test-probe. A bracket or electrical box (not included) is also required to mount the 4-Flat end.
The manual does not mention drilling. Installation involves removing an access panel, inserting the 6-Pin Tow-Plug Adapter into the existing trailer harness connector, routing the harness, and mounting the 4-Flat end with a bracket or electrical box.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturing rating in your vehicle owner's manual or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Consult both sources for the exact limit.
