Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tow-Plug is a towing harness connector that allows you to connect a trailer to your vehicle. It plugs into your vehicle's factory Tow-Plug mating connector to establish the electrical connection needed for trailer lighting and control. The harness must be fully inserted and locked in place to function properly.
The manual shows the Tow-Plug installed on a Chevrolet Trailblazer, but does not provide a complete list of compatible vehicles. Your vehicle must have a factory Tow-Plug harness and mating connector. Contact the manufacturer or check your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
Yes. The installation instructions assume your vehicle has a factory Tow-Plug harness and mating connector already present. Step 2 directs you to access the vehicle's existing Tow-Plug harness by removing the rear threshold. If your vehicle does not have these factory components, this product cannot be installed.
You will need a trim panel remover and a test-probe. The trim panel remover is used to access the rear cargo area and remove the rear threshold. The test-probe is used to verify the installation after the Tow-Plug is connected.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. However, it does require you to reset the vehicle's electrical system after installation by temporarily removing the ignition key. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or the manufacturer for guidance on battery disconnection.
You must open the rear hatch and fold back or remove the rear cargo tray to gain access to the cargo area. Then remove the rear threshold to access the vehicle's Tow-Plug harness and mating connector.
Insert the Tow-Plug harness into the vehicle's mating connector and lock it into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place. All connections must be complete for the Tow-Plug to function properly.
After inserting and locking the harness, reinstall the rear threshold, cargo trays, and any other items you removed for installation. Then reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key. Finally, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer to ensure it is working correctly.
Store the Tow-Plug harness in the cargo area when not in use.
The manual does not state the product's amperage rating. However, it warns that you must not exceed the lower of: (1) the towing manufacturer rating stated in your vehicle's owner's manual, or (2) the specific amperage ratings stated on the product itself. Check the product label and your vehicle's owner's manual for these ratings.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning. Read, understand, and follow all warnings and instructions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Do not exceed the stated product ratings or the lower of the towing manufacturer rating or specific amperage ratings.
Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key. This ensures all connections are complete and the Tow-Plug is functioning properly.
Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the stated product ratings. Respect the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Always read your vehicle's owner's manual and the product instruction sheet for additional information.
The manual confirms fitment for Chevrolet Trailblazer. Your vehicle must have a factory Tow-Plug harness and mating connector. Contact the manufacturer to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle model.
You need a trim panel remover and a test-probe. No drilling, welding, or permanent modifications are required.
Yes. Open the rear hatch, fold back or remove the rear cargo tray, and remove the rear threshold to access the vehicle's Tow-Plug harness.
Insert the Tow-Plug harness into the vehicle's mating connector and lock it into place. Ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
