Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way TK118271 (Part #TK118271) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is a trailer wiring harness that integrates with your vehicle's electrical system to provide power and lighting control for a trailer. It connects to your vehicle's factory towplug and distributes power to trailer functions including park lamps, turn signals, stop lights, backup lights, and trailer brakes.
The T-Connector 118271-037 is designed for Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave. The manual does not specify model years or trim levels, so contact the manufacturer or your installer to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle year and configuration.
You need a test probe (test light). The manual lists this as the only required tool. You will also need a bracket or electrical box (not included) to mount the 7-way socket in an accessible location.
The T-Connector includes: four 10 Amp fuses (for trailer park lamp, left turn, right turn, and backup functions), two 30 Amp fuses (for trailer brake and trailer power), and two relays (for left and right turn functions). Do not substitute different relays, as this can result in the unit not functioning or damage to the vehicle and/or trailer.
The towplug is located under the vehicle on the passenger side. To find it, locate the opening to the right of the vehicle muffler and reach up into that opening. The towplug is grey in colour. It has a protective cover that must be disconnected and discarded before connecting the T-Connector harness.
1. Under the vehicle hood, locate the fuse box and insert the provided 10 Amp fuses in positions F41, F21, F17, and F8. Insert the 30 Amp fuses in positions F34 and F30. Insert the relays in positions R16 and R15. 2. Locate the grey towplug under the vehicle on the passenger side (to the right of the muffler). Disconnect and discard the protective cover. Connect the towplug harness to the mating harness, ensuring connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place and surfaces are clean. 3. Plug the 7-way socket into the T-Connector harness. Route the 7-way to the centre of the vehicle and mount it in an accessible location using a bracket or electrical box (not included). Secure the harness with the provided cable ties, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and any areas that could cut or pinch the wire.
Insert the four 10 Amp fuses (provided) in the following positions: Trailer Park Lamp in position F41, Left Turn Trailer Stop/Turn in position F21, Right Turn Trailer Stop/Turn in position F17, and Trailer Back Up in position F8.
Insert the two 30 Amp fuses (provided) in the following positions: Trailer Brake in position F34 and Trailer Power in position F30.
Insert the two relays (provided) in the following positions: Right Turn Trailer Stop/Turn relay in position R16 and Left Turn Trailer Stop/Turn relay in position R15. Do not use relays other than those included, as this can result in the unit not functioning or damage to the vehicle and/or trailer.
Route the wire carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Plug the 7-way socket into the T-Connector harness and route it to the centre of the vehicle. Mount the 7-way end in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box (not included). Secure the remainder of the harness with the provided cable ties to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
When connecting the towplug harness to the mating harness, check that the mating surfaces of the wiring connectors match. All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's rating or these limits: stop/turn light (10 amps), tail lights (10 amps), backup (10 amps), power circuit (20 amps), and trailer brakes for 3 axles/6 brakes (18 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
